After two weeks of little movement, the Eagles picked up the pace this week, hosting two offensive-minded candidates for in-person interviews to fill their offensive coordinator vacancy.
Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter interviewed in-person on Tuesday for the Eagles’ offensive coordinator job, per a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. His first interview was virtual.
The Eagles also had Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion in for a second, in-person interview on Wednesday. Mannion, the 33-year-old ex-quarterback, does not hold much coaching experience. Cooter, on the other hand, does.
READ MORE ON MANNION:
The 38-year-old began his coaching career with the Indianapolis Colts, serving as an offensive assistant under head coach Jim Caldwell from 2009–2011, working with Peyton Manning and reaching Super Bowl XLIV. He moved on to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012 as an offensive quality control coach on a staff that included Nick Sirianni. Cooter then joined the Denver Broncos in 2013 as an offensive assistant before heading to Detroit, where he served as the Lions’ quarterbacks coach from 2014–2015. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2016, a position he held for three seasons.

After his time in Detroit, he spent two years as the New York Jets’ running backs coach from 2019–2020. In 2021, Cooter joined the Eagles as an offensive consultant. He then later became the passing game coordinator under Doug Pederson in Jacksonville. Most recently, he returned to Indianapolis as the Colts’ offensive coordinator in 2023, working under head coach and former Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen.
So, Cooter has been around the block, including some ties back to Philadelphia.
In his three years as Steichen’s offensive coordinator, the Colts ranked 10th, 17th, and eighth in total offense. Overall, they were ninth in points and 12th in total yards. This past season, the Colts finished 8-9 after an 8-2 start. However, on the backs of Daniel Jones before tearing his ACL and a breakout season from Jonathan Taylor, they ranked eighth in scoring and in yards per play.

Cooter does not call plays in Indianapolis. Steichen holds that responsibility, hence why a move to Philadelphia would be a promotion for Cooter.
Cooter was the first coach to receive public interest from the Eagles after firing Kevin Patullo two weeks ago. Now, he becomes the first coach to get an in-person interview with the team on Tuesday. Mannion was second, who was interviewed in person a day later. The two candidates are pretty opposite. One with much experience, one without, but both are below the age of 40 and have surrounded themselves with top offensive minds in the league.
It was also reported on Wednesday by The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane that the Eagles have yet to officially offer anyone the offensive coordinator job. That could change this week with sequel interviews rolling in.
