The Eagles’ search for their next offensive coordinator could be reaching the finish line, as the team hosted Green Bay Packers’ quarterbacks coach, Sean Mannion, for a second interview on Wednesday. His initial consultation was virtual earlier this week.

Mannion was selected 89th overall by the then-St. Louis Rams out of Oregon State in 2015. He played for the Rams from 2015-2018, crossing over with Sean McVay the last couple of seasons. The career backup quarterback bounced between the Seattle Seahawks and the Minnesota Vikings before entering coaching in 2024. Mannion played in 14 total games with three starts in his six-year career. He completed 60.9% of his passes for 573 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions.

His coaching career began in 2024 as an offensive assistant on Matt LaFleur’s staff in Green Bay before being promoted to quarterbacks coach the following year after the great Tom Clements retired. The 33-year-old has worked closely with Jordan Love, helping him rank sixth in the NFL in 2025 in QB rating with a 101.2. Mannion has also made backup Malik Willis look like a starter when called upon.

There is a lot of upside with Mannion. He is a sharp football mind who has played for a lot of high-class offensive play-callers, such as McVay, Zac Taylor, Klint Kubiak, Kevin O’Connell, and others. Packers fans also are not responding well to the fact of a possible departure.

“The Packers think he’s a future head coach. They love him,” Peter Bukowski of the Locked on Packers podcast said. “Tom Clements was the quarterback Yoda in Green Bay forever. One of the best quarterbacks coaches of the modern era. Mannion was the hand-picked successor. He hasn’t been coaching long, that’s the only thing. He’s a really bright young coach.”

Bukowski states the concerns at the end of that statement.

Mannion is extremely young. He is 33, has just two years of coaching experience, has never called plays, and no one has really heard of him outside of Green Bay.

If Mannion gets the job, this would be the opposite of what the Eagles initially set out for. They were looking for an experienced play-caller who, similar to Vic Fangio on the defensive side, would not be swooped up to be a head coach elsewhere.

Sitting in front of a room and leading an offense with Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, and other established championship-winning veterans is not an easy task, especially in the city of Philadelphia. Handing that responsibility to a 33-year-old with an extremely minute level of experience is troublesome.

Mannion deserves respect and a chance. He is a well-respected young coach with a bright football IQ. This is not saying Mannion cannot rejuvenate this offense, but for a high-level position like this and with what the Eagles anticipated two weeks ago when Kevin Patullo was fired, it leaves a bit to be desired.
