We’re now officially past the halfway mark of the 2025 NFL season, and the Philadelphia Eagles remain at the top of the NFC and are in a fantastic position to win the NFC East for a second consecutive season.

It hasn’t been the smoothest ship sailed up to this point, as ugly playcalling and injuries have caused major ups and downs throughout the year. Yet somehow, the Eagles have found a way to be 7-2 heading into the loaded final two months of the season, and now they run into the team some feel is the biggest threat to the Eagles getting back to the Super Bowl: the Detroit Lions.

The Lions may only be 6-3 this season, but they are far from what their record show. This team is built to win and win now, and they’re led by one of the best coaches in the NFL, Dan Campbell. There’s no doubt that the Lions could be hosting the Lombardi trophy come February.

Add on to the fact that this game is on Sunday Night Football, as the entire country will be watching two of the best in the NFL go one-on-one. It will be a main event heavyweight fight, and the winner could hold a huge advantage come the end of the season, as this game could decide who ends up as the No. 1 seed in the conference.

Fully Healthy Birds, Banged Up Lions

With this being a massive game for both teams, the one thing that the Eagles hold coming into this matchup is that they are by far the healthier team of the two. Philadelphia has dealt with its fair share of the injury bug this season, losing multiple players on both sides of the ball for multiple weeks. However, heading into week 11, the Eagles are as healthy as they have been all year, and Sunday night could be a preview of the full talent the Eagles have to offer.

As for the Lions, the same can’t be said. The team has already announced that starting tight end Sam LaPorta and starting defensive backs Kerby Joseph and Terrion Arnold will all miss this week’s game. These are huge losses for Detroit as Joseph and Arnold are big-time playmakers in the Lions’ secondary, and LaPorta is one of the best tight ends in the NFL.

This obviously benefits the Eagles, who could target the weakened Detroit secondary, and it gives them one less mouth that they have to worry about on defense. Still with those players out, the Lions are still loaded on both sides of the ball, especially on the offensive side.

Stopping Detroit’s Offensive Weapons

Say what you want about the Lions and Jared Goff and Campbell, but one thing is for certain with Detroit: their offense is stockpiled with offensive talent. Whether it’s the offensive line, the wide receivers, or the running backs, every part of their offense has All-Pro-talented players.

They are led on offense by two-time first-team All-Pros Amon-Ra St. Brown and Penei Sewell, as well as star running back Jahmyr Gibbs. All three of those players are the fuel that drives this offense. When they’re all playing well, the Lions offense is usually playing well.

Supporting them are fellow stud running back David Montgomery and wide receiver Jameson Williams. LaPorta is missing the game, but the man who brings the offense together is Goff. Once written off, Goff has thrived with his weapons in Detroit and has been the perfect captain and quarterback for the team.

The huge key to the Eagles picking up the victory on primetime is if their defense can step up to the challenge and prevent Detroit’s offensive weapons from doing what they do best: taking over and dominating their opponents. Stopping St. Brown and Gibbs will be job No. 1, as they need to force the others to beat them. On top of that, they have to make Goff play his best game and not let him get in a groove.

The Eagles’ defense is coming off its best game of the entire season, holding the Green Bay Packers to just seven points on the road, and will need another great performance if they want any chance of picking up the win this week.

Will A.J. Brown Get What He Wants?

While the Eagles’ defense has been great, the offense hasn’t been exactly what Eagles fans have wanted, and that narrative continued this week after Brown went on a Twitch live stream talking about how his season has been terrible. Brown also stated that if people had him in their fantasy football leagues, they should trade him.

Brown is a top wide receiver in this league, and it’s the truth that he has not been utilized the way he can be and has been in years past. Is that because of offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, or has Brown and his relationship with Eagles’ quarterback Jalen Hurts gone sour?

At the same time, Brown has become frustrating to deal with as he has gone online multiple times this year, posting subliminal messages asking for the ball more. So will Brown get what he wants? The Lions are down multiple defensive backs, and at the same time, the Lions’ defense is one of the best against the run. It hasn’t been a big passing year for the Eagles, but Sunday Night could call for Hurts and co. to chuck the rock.
