The Philadelphia Flyers finished off the St. Louis Blues in comeback fashion to start their productive weekend, as they responded from a two-goal deficit early in the third period.
The win was not only a result of the Flyers’ dads in the arena, but the resilience of a specific line in tonight’s game, the source of all five goals for the Flyers.
Though a rough performance for goaltender Samuel Ersson in tonight’s 6-5 win, pairs of goals for Trevor Zegras and Christian Dvorak have shown their consistency and ability to work together, and more importantly, a late-game-tying goal from Owen Tippett brought him back after recent struggles.
Zegras Continues Early Season Dominance
A huge part of the win tonight gets credited to the continuation of Flyers’ star Zegras, who had a pair of goals in tonight’s game, in addition to a shootout goal. His two goals on the night bring his season’s total to six goals, which leads the Flyers. Zegras also leads the Flyers in assists, as another assist tonight brings that total up to 13 (19 points).

The work he has done so far this year has shown and helped the Flyers when they needed it most, whether a highlight reel assit, a shootout tally, or a goal for himself, Zegras has contributed more than expected for the Flyers, and tonight was a perfect example of him putting his skills on display, as his two goals and an assist kept the Flyers in what could have been a blowout on the Blues’ side.
Dvorak and Tippett Show Good Signs
The work of Zegras was impressive tonight, but could not have been done without the help of the offseason acquisition of Dvorak, who also had an outstanding night against St. Louis. While on Zegras’ line, Dvorak had two goals for himself, putting him at five on the season and second on the Flyers roster. He also had an assist, adding up to 10 points on the night for the Tippett-Zegras-Dvorak line.
The story of the night and the statistics mean more for Tippett tonight, however, as he had cooled off from his hot start and shown disappointment with shots ripped off the posts and a game-winning goal against Edmonton being removed for offsides on Tippett’s part. That can all be put behind him, as Tippett was able to gather himself and put up four points on the night. Not only was one of his three assists an impressive feed to Dvorak, but his goal tied the game up at five apiece.
Going down the stretch, these are the guys that will need to be relied on to an extent, which is why a night like this is important for everyone.

Concerning Night for Ersson
Though Ersson had won his 11th shootout tonight, his holes greatly showed, as he gave up five goals on what were 14 shots at a time (17 after overtime). Ersson finished off tonight’s game (not including the shootout) with a .706 save percentage in a full frame of hockey, plus overtime. Ersson went in with a .866 save percentage, which, while frustrating on its own, managed to raise concerns about what could be its highest.
The Blues, however, do have great talent by the net, as Jordan Kyrou and Dylan Holloway have great shootout skills at such young ages. But the question regarding Ersson stays in play, on how long the Flyers can truly ride the tandem with Ersson getting consistent time in the crease.
Whether the Flyers’ staff thinks low of him, and trade value goes down, or they appreciate the effort he puts in, Ersson played strongly the rest of the game and showed the city of St. Louis what he does best in the shootout. He hopes the late-game performance can bring him back in and settle him after giving up five.
Flyers Continue Back-to-Back Tomorrow Night
The Flyers take their win tonight into Dallas against the 25-point Stars tomorrow night, during this weekend’s back-to-back, at 8:00 ET.
