Another day, another series win — Phillies handle Tigers 6-2

After a disappointing 2nd game of the series yesterday, the Phillies aimed to take their 3rd straight series win with Spencer Turnbull on the mound.
A combination of a fantastic day from Brandon Marsh, and some timely bullpen pitching helped the Phillies pull this one out.
Turnbull’s return to Detroit not as planned
Spencer Turnbull got his first start since April 30th when he was assigned to bullpen duties, but it didn’t go quite as smoothly as we would’ve hoped.
Turnbull’s pitching itself was alright, he had been almost perfect barring a Matt Vierling solo shot in the 1st inning.
After the third inning, however, Turnbull left the game with “Right Shoulder Soreness” ending his start almost as quickly as it began.
Beautiful day from the bullpen
With Spencer Turnbull’s day cut short the bullpen was given a hefty load to carry and they carried it out to perfection.
Rob Thomson called upon 6 different relievers today, whose combined lines were 6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, and 5 Ks.
The Phillies bullpen has burst onto the scene this year to be one of the, if not the best in baseball and this is just another example of such.
Marsh Mania
Brandon Marsh led the way offensively today while breaking out of a power slump he’s been stuck in since April 26th.
Marsh really got things going in the 4th inning when he blasted an opposite-field home run scoring himself and Bryson Stott. This is hopefully a sign of more to come because Marsh hadn’t homered since April beforehand.
He continued an inning later with a 2 RBI single, scoring Casty and Stott again to extend the lead to 5-1.
Bryson Stott scored for a 3rd time when in the 8th inning David Dahl brought him home via the sacrifice fly.
