Jared McCain Heading to South Philly, Duke Guard Selected with 16th Pick

You never know what Daryl Morey will do! Jared McCain from Duke is heading to Philadelphia after falling to the 16th pick.
This is an excellent selection by Morey and Nick Nurse, as it was unexpected that McCain would be available this late in the draft. He possibly could find himself in the starting lineup this season depending on the availability of players like De’Anthony Melton and Kyle Lowry, if they’re even still on the team.
Jared McCain is a 6’3, 197-pound guard from Duke University. He just finished his Freshman season with the Blue Devils where he averaged 14 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. He started all 36 games for Duke and led them to the Elite 8 of March Madness, in which McCain scored 32 points in a tight loss to the 11-seeded NC State.
The 20-year-old was a high school superstar and was a 5-star McDonald’s All-American. In his Senior year of High School, McCain averaged 18 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals for the illustrious Centennial High School, leading him to win California Gatorade Player of the Year after also winning it in his Junior season.
There is still a possibility that Morey will shop McCain, but it would probably be in his best interest not to do this. McCain has a high upside, with Bleacher Report comparing him to Immanuel Quickley off the rip. He could turn into the perfect teammate in the backcourt for Tyrese Maxey due to both players being able to create shots at an elite level.
The vibes in the Philadelphia locker room will be at an all-time high after the selection of Jared McCain. McCain has 2.8 million followers on TikTok and is known for his dancing and painted nails. His personality will help with team morale and he has one of the best attitudes in the draft.
We’ll see if Daryl Morey made the right selection here in just a few short months, as great players like Dalton Knecht, Yves Missi, and Isaiah Collier are still available.
