This may come as a surprise to some people, but 76ers guard Furkan Korkmaz suffered a left adductor strain in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game at Cleveland. He is sidelined and will be reevaluated in approximately two weeks. This is a tough loss for the Sixers as last year Korkmaz was one of their most reliable shooters.

Korkmaz blew up last season after he made an incredible buzzer-beater three-point shot to win the game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Even though he’s been with the team since the 2017-18 season, fans only really took notice to him last season.

Korkmaz, who scored eleven points off the bench in twenty minutes during the Sixers season opener on Wednesday, has been a major part of this Sixers bench, he nailed 3 of 5 three-point attempts on opening night as well. Since then, he’s been much quieter. He’s had a combined seven points in twenty-five minutes over the last two games, this has not been good at all. Last season, Korkmaz shot 40.2% from beyond the arc on 4.9 attempts per game. His three-point percentage ranked fourth on the team last year, behind Shake Milton, Trey Burke, and Alec Burks, who all had a much smaller sample size. Obviously this is very good.

Losing Korkmaz is a big deal for the Sixers. But there is some good opening that comes from this as well. This could expand some looks for both Matisse Thybulle, who signed a third-year option with the team on Monday, and Sixers first-round pick rookie Tyrese Maxey, who played in 22 minutes against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday night. So there are some positives to come out with this. But it’s mostly bad.

It’s a rough loss for the Sixers as they will be without one of their best three-point shooters for at-least two-weeks. It’ll be a tough task for the Sixers to play without Korkmaz but let’s hope he’ll be back as soon as possible.
