Darius Slay has made himself a legend in Philadelphia during his time here, but it seems his tenure with the Eagles is coming to an end.
There had been reports prior to the Super Bowl that Slay had planned on having the big game be his last with the Eagles and we see that coming full circle now.
Eagles are releasing six-time Pro-Bowl CB Darius Slay, per sources.

If he is designated a post-June 1 release, the Eagles will save $4.3 million against the cap. pic.twitter.com/tUq4ScIK79
The Eagles have many key free agents hitting the open market this year and will need all the money they can get to keep key contributors like Zack Baun, Josh Sweat, and Mekhi Becton in town. Unfortunately for Slay with the emergence of Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, this puts him in an awkward spot. When you factor in that the Eagles save 4.3 million dollars on the salary cap the move starts to make sense.
Don’t forget that after Super Bowl 57 Slay was also released. He would go on to resign for a cheaper price, but the point is that this has happened before. Slay is an Eagles legend and one of the greatest CBs in team history and he will be one of the most highly coveted DBs on the market.
So, is it really over in Philadelphia for Slay?
Not exactly according to John Clark. Similar to what we saw 2 years ago, John Clark says there is a chance Slay runs it back with the Eagles if they can agree to a cheaper contract.
I’m told it’s possible that Darius Slay, after being released, could still come back with the Eagles at a lower number

The trio of Slay, Quinyon, and DeJean proved to be unstoppable en route to a Super Bowl this past season so you’d have to imagine there would be some interest from Howie Roseman to try and run it back. Slay’s cap hit this past season was around 13 million dollars at the age of 34. Obviously, the factor of how large the market is for Slay will be the determining factor.
