THE EAGLES ARE YOUR SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS!!
After a dominant performance, the Philadelphia Eagles throttled the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX, to capture the Eagles’ second Super Bowl in franchise history. It’s also the second championship in the last seven years for the Eagles.
After losing to Kansas City in Super Bowl LVII, Nick Sirianni and the rest of the Eagles get redemption against the Chiefs avenging their loss two years ago. Jalen Hurts put on a masterclass of a performance. Hurts threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns while also running for 72 yards and rushing a touchdown in. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith both provided excellent service in the win both catching touchdowns. Surprisingly, Saquon Barkley was the quiet man in the offense, as he didn’t find the endzone and rushed for just 57 yards but also caught six balls for 40 yards.
The Eagles’ defense was the true star of the show in the win. Vic Fangio’s unit came to play as they sacked Patrick Mahomes six times in the win, and on top of that, picked off Mahomes not once but twice, one being for a pick-six, and forced a fumble out of him. Josh Sweat led the way with 2.5 sacks while Milton Williams added two more.
The Chiefs on both ends struggled, falling to get any momentum going. Mahomes threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns but three turnovers were the nail in the coffin. Xavier Worthy was impressive grabbing eight balls for 157 yards and two touchdowns.
After losing the toss, the Eagles received the ball first as Super Bowl LIX was officially underway. Jalen Hurts was able to pick up a quick first down with a pass to DeVonta Smith, but up came 4th and 2 at midfield and the Eagles decided to go for it. Hurts dropped back and hit A.J. Brown down the sideline for a huge catch but a questionable offensive pass interference was called forcing the Eagles to punt.
On the Chiefs’ opening drive, the Eagles’ defense swarmed around Patrick Mahomes forcing an early three-and-out. With the ball back, Hurts found Dallas Goedert for a 20-yard catch, and four plays later, Hurts found Jahan Dotson down the sideline for a 27-yard catch down to the one. The Eagles lined up and successfully tushed pushed Hurts into the endzone for the first score of the game.

The Eagles once again forced a three-and-out from Mahomes, and with the ball back the offense was looking for another quick score. Hurts looked incredible throughout the drive, hitting short passes and solid runs to pick a few first downs. A defensive offsides penalty allowed the Eagles to continue their drive, however, on a loaded blitz, Hurts threw up a ball in double coverage and was intercepted by Bryan Cook.
Despite grabbing a turnover, the Chiefs once again went three and out giving the ball right back to Philadelphia. The Eagles struggled to move the ball on their next drive but were able to get the ball back into field goal range, and Jake Elliott drilled a 48-yard field goal to make it 10-0. Three plays later with the ball back with the Chiefs, Mahomes dropped back and threw an interception to Cooper DeJean who took it back 38 yards for a pick-six.

Up 17, both teams traded punts after short drives as the second quarter winded down with the Chiefs getting the ball back inside their own 10-yard line. On the first play after, Mahomes threw another interception this time to Zack Baun giving the Eagles the ball back in a goal-to-go scenario.
Two plays later, Hurts found Brown wide-open for a 12-yard touchdown to make it 24-0 Eagles. The Chiefs had little time left to get a score and once again failed to do so ending the half with a punt, and the Eagles up 24.
Out of the half, the Eagles’ defense continued to dominate against Mahomes, once again forcing a quick punt. Now up three scores, the offense went on a 12-play nearly seven-minute drive ending the drive with three points from another field goal from Elliott. Mahomes, desperately trying to get any offense going faced a quick fourth down, and after a batted ball from Avonte Maddox, gave the ball back to the Eagles. One play later, Hurts went deep and found Smith for a 46-yard touchdown.
Down 34-0. the Chiefs finally put an impressive drive on offense together with Mahomes hitting Xavier Worthy on two deep passes one being for a 24-yard touchdown, but failed to convert the two-point conversion. The Eagles now just needing to waste time continued to waste the clock with long drives, but could once again only cash in with a field goal from Elliott. However, on the next Chiefs drive, Milton Williams stripped sacked Mahomes and recovered the fumble for the Eagles’ defense’s third turnover. They once again settled for a field goal after wasting more clock making it 40-6.
With under eight minutes left to play, the Chiefs continued to execute on offense putting together another long touchdown drive with Mahomes finding DeAndre Hopkins open for six and hit Justin Watson for the two-point conversion. The Eagles with Kenny Pickett now in the game, failed to fully run out the clock giving the ball back to Mahomes. He then chucked a pass deep and found Worthy open again for a 50-yard touchdown and Hopkins grabbed the two-point conversion. With just over two minutes left, the Eagles received the onside kick and kneed out the clock winning 40-22, and claiming the Super Bowl.
