A little thing to remember prior to Super Bowl LIX

Super Bowl Sunday is finally here.

We made it. After all the hoopla and nonsense of the past two weeks with the media, production, and all the other absurdity that occurs during Super Bowl week, we are ultimately here.

And it is a serial feeling. It really has not set in for me yet. This is the Eagles’ third Super Bowl appearance in eight years, and the second in three years against the Chiefs. It is a special time to be an Eagles fan.

It is a special time to be a Philadelphian.

Sunday is a special day.

As Philadelphia sports fans, we do not get many days like this. Or do we?

In my lifetime, I have been spoiled. I saw the Phillies win a World Series in 2008 (kind of), the Eagles win their first Super Bowl in 2018, a boatload of Sixers playoff appearances, an unbelievable Phillies postseason run in 2022, and now a second Super Bowl in three seasons.

I have been very lucky. I know the history of Philadelphia sports. Things like this do not happen very often.

So, for all of us, it is important to be grateful for seasons and days like this.

The team, the players, the moments. But for me, it is more about who I am with throughout the season, and where I am for games like this.

I remember in 2018 watching Super Bowl LII with my parents and grandparents. When that ball dropped in the endzone, and Al Michaels said there was no time left on the clock, I remember jumping onto my Dad and then going outside blowing air horns and celebrating the first Super Bowl in franchise history. I was 10 years old.

In October of 2022, when the Phillies clinched the World Series in Game 5 of the NLCS over the Padres, I will never forget Bedlan at the Bank. Being in the building for that moment with my Dad, videoing the whole day to publish onto YouTube, is a memory I will forever cherish.

We have suffered a lot since 2022 as Philadelphia fans. The Phillies blew the 2022 World Series after a 2-1 series lead, the Union sold the MLS Cup in the final moments of extra time, Eagles blew Super Bowl LVII in the second half, the Sixers threw away Games 6 and 7 to Boston, the Phils blew Games 6 and 7 at home to the Diamondbacks in the NLCS, Eagles starting 10-1 in 2023 and then crash and burn, and finally the Sixers and Phillies both being embarrassed by New York teams in the first round.

It has been rough. But in the history of Philadelphia sports, this is rare. These moments do not come around very often.

So Sunday night, win or lose, cherish the moments with your friends or family.

This is the time to remember because it will not last forever.
