The Flyers will open their first game out of 84 against the team they knocked out of the playoffs last year, the Pittsburgh Penguins, at Xfinity Mobile Arena. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30 at 7:30 p.m.
It will be the earliest the Flyers have opened a regular season in franchise history and their first time starting a regular season in September. It will also be the first time since the 2022-23 season that they start a season at home.
The Flyers will travel to Newark to face the Devils the following day, October 1, then come back home two days later to visit the defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes on the third of the month. They’ll then face Claude Giroux and the Senators for their home opener a week later, on the eighth. Out of the six games to open the season for the Flyers, four of them will be on the road.
The NHL has expanded its season. Games are going from 82 to 84 starting this season, with a shortened preseason. The last time the NHL had an 84-game season was back in 1993. Each team will play 42 home games and 42 away games. The Flyers will face each of their Metropolitan Division opponents four times: twice on the road, and twice at home against Carolina, Columbus, New Jersey, the Islanders, the Rangers, Pittsburgh and Washington.

Now, here are some notable facts about the new 84-game schedule.
The Flyers will play on Black Friday again this year. The team did not play on the day after Thanksgiving last year due to the Eagles game vs. the Chicago Bears. It has been a tradition for Philadelphia to host a matchup on Black Friday, and they will do so against the Vancouver Canucks on the 27th of November at 3 p.m.
They’ll play 16 games on weekends, with 11 of those on Saturday. They’ll also play 12 back-to-backs during this season. They played 14 last season, and they’ll play three games in four nights 13 times and four games in six nights nine times. No back-to-backs will take place during March and April.
Among those weekend matchups is a game against the always-hated Anaheim Ducks, who will visit Philadelphia on Saturday, October 24, at 1 p.m. They’ll meet again in Anaheim on Sunday, January 3 at 8 p.m.
The team will play 16 games in January, the most they’ll play in a single month, opening the year at San Jose at 4 p.m. Then, they will only play nine games in February. There is a hiatus in the schedule from the 4th-13th, due to the All-Star break, which is being held in Long Island, New York.
November is tied for the second-longest month on the schedule, with 15 games. September and October will also have 15 games. The team will play nine out of their 15 November matchups on the road.

The Flyers’ longest road trip will be in November, with a five-game stint against the Rangers, Flames, Canucks, Oilers, and Blue Jackets. Their longest road trip, in terms of days, runs from December 27 to January 4, when Xfinity Mobile Arena takes over to host Disney on Ice. They’ll play Chicago, Seattle, San Jose, Anaheim, and Los Angeles. Their longest homestand will also be five games but in January, against the Predators, Devils, Panthers, Kings, and Jets.
Also in December, the Flyers have their holiday spectacular game against Columbus.
The Flyers will also end their regular season at home against the Washington Capitals on Saturday, April 10. The Flyers will end their season with seven away games in their last 10 matchups. Could this be the last game in the storied career of Alex Ovechkin?
