Phillies’ chain-stitched wordmark returns to jersey for 2026

The Phillies’ offseason featured the return of quite a few household names. The team’s jersey will also bring a fan-favorite back in 2026.
Following the flop of Nike and Fanatic’s Vapor Premier in 2024, the companies have reverted to the pre-2024 template, which is the look and feel we had become accustomed to. The typical road grays returned last year, and home whites are following suit this season.
For the Phillies, it means the reinstatement of the chain-stitching to their jersey wordmark.

The vintage-style, looped stitching technique was unveiled in 2019 when Majestic was in their final year of producing MLB uniforms. Nike retained the fashion, but abandoned it when they went to their Vapor Premier template. That style brought lots of backlash. The name plates were tiny, the uniforms were miscolored, and the pants were see-through.

The chain-stitch detail gives the wordmark more texture and depth, something that was immediately noticed as missing in 2024 and 2025’s flatter design.

The last time the Phillies sported the chain-stitch was in 2023. They have not won a playoff series since they dumped it. Maybe it is a sign.
The return of the pre-2024 template does not mean the dismissal of Nike’s 4+1 rule. The policy, which was introduced in 2023, limits teams to four base uniforms (home, road, and two alternates) plus a fifth City Connect jersey. The Phillies were forced to remove their red jerseys, which were primarily used for Spring Training and getaway games in recent years. The team also had to retire its St. Patrick’s Day green tops.

“They made us commit to a 4+1,” Phillies vice president of business affairs Howard Smith said when the team unveiled its City Connects in 2024. “So if you didn’t want to do it, like the Yankees aren’t doing it, they don’t have five uniforms. But if you have five uniforms, you’re gonna go with four base uniforms and City Connect.
“So we had our white pinstripes, not getting rid of that. Powder blues, fan-favorite … creams, another fan-favorite … aways. The reds were our Spring Training uniform. We had only just started wearing them the last couple of years. I was disappointed, but we’re supporting MLB in the initiative, so it really wasn’t that big of a deal.”
Still, for those who care about tradition, the return of the classic stitching is a small but meaningful win, which Phillies fans need right about now.
