The Eagles have their new offensive coordinator and passing game coordinator, but what exactly makes them qualified? What are their implications?

Josh Grizzard’s hiring as passing game coordinator has been questionable to some, mainly due to him being fired by the Buccaneers after last season. However, it is important to note that he is not the Eagles’ OC. His role on the team is to create and coordinate the best production possible out of our passing attack.

In Tampa Bay, a lot of his criticism came from his inability to develop the rushing attack, but those expectations are gone in his position with the Eagles. With respect to the passing attack, he showed his strengths, turning Emeka Egbuka into a standout rookie wide receiver. Unfortunately for Grizzard, both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin had to deal with injuries this year, but still, he was able to produce with some of the players lower on the depth chart.

Grizzard, although lacking mentorship under experienced coaches, has coached plenty of great WRs and can manage a locker room similar to the Eagles’. His specialty is playing WRs to their strengths. This should immediately translate to production from A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.

Lastly, Grizzard uses a wide variety of route concepts, so we won’t have to watch 4 hitches or Brown 50/50 balls on 3rd and 7 in 2026.

Sean Mannion, on the other hand, has learned from some of the best in the NFL, such as Sean McVay, Kevin O’Connell, and Matt LaFleur. So, Mannion has developed from some other young, great coaches around the league right now. But great mentors aren’t everything; the question is what exactly he done to develop and control the Packers’ offense.

Jordan Love showed steady progression as the Packers’ quarterback over the last 3 years. Over the last 3 years, the Packers have held steady coaching, with Adam Stenavich serving as the offensive coordinator, and the only change being Mannion replacing Tom Clements, acting as the quarterbacks coach in this past season. This shows how Love has served under the same system since his debut season. In both seasons, Love played 15 games with very similar offenses. This past season, Love had a higher completion %, TD-INT ratio, passer rating, QBR, and even had almost half the interceptions as compared to the previous season. All of this comes while passing more than he did the previous season.

With that being said, it is clear that Mannion has the ability to boost QB performance, and when he’s given the tools Philadelphia has, I can see Jalen Hurts returning to the great QB we know he can be.

The combination of Mannion and Grizzard allows two young coaches to control an offense of superstars and play them to their strengths. In 2026, I wouldn’t be surprised if Hurts develops even further and returns to his MVP-level form. With all of that being said, I see similarity in these hirings to Kellen Moore‘s hiring in 2024, and I hold similar expectations for the offense that season as well.

Overall, these two coaches have proven themselves as able to develop and control an offense with the power of Philadelphia. Under them, the passing attack should see rejuvenation and be a threat in the air and on the ground as it was two seasons ago. Whether it’s Grizzard’s concepts or Mannion’s development abilities, we are due to see a new offense that will look unrecognizable from the struggles of 2025.
