Even though it feels like the Eagles’ season just started yesterday, we have officially passed the halfway point.

The Eagles are sitting in a great spot at this midpoint with a 7-2 record and the number one seed in the NFC. I always find it fun to make bold predictions before the season starts, then revisit them after the season.

Usually, since they are bold predictions, they do not always go well. So, for the halfway point in the season, I have put together three not-so-bold predictions for the second half of this 2025 season.

DeVonta Smith Will Continue to be the WR1

While Smith has been a great player for the Eagles since he was drafted 10th overall in 2021, he has, for the most part, been in A.J. Brown’s shadow. Since joining the Eagles in 2022, Brown has been the team’s leading receiver every year he has donned the midnight green.

But in 2025, it seems that his streak will end. So far this season, Smith has 48 catches for 657 yards, both leading the team. Smith also has the most receiving yards in a game this season from any player in the NFL when he went for 183 yards against the Vikings. The Eagles’ new number one receiver is on pace for 96 catches and 1,314 yards, both would be career highs.

While Smith will obviously finish as the team’s leading receiver, I still believe he will be the team’s best receiver throughout the second half of the season. Brown yet again voiced his frustration after the win over the Packers, and it just does not seem like he and Jalen Hurts are on the same page. Whether it’s the coaches, the quarterback, or A.J. has lost a step, I do not believe they will get it fixed to where he is back to the player we have seen in the past.

Smith has shown this season that he has developed into being one of the best receivers in the NFL, and I think he will continue to produce like a wide receiver one the rest of the year.

The Defensive Line Will Become a Strength

After Monday night’s victory, it is easy to say that the defensive line is, and will become, a strength for this team, but after the first few weeks of the season, it was a massive weakness. While it is only one game, the addition of Jaelan Phillips looks like a home run move by Howie Roseman. Phillips was arguably the best defensive player on the field Monday night, and he looks like he can be a difference maker for this unit.

While the addition of Phillips helps, the biggest reason I believe this defensive line will become a strength is Jalen Carter. Carter has had a rough first half of the year, from spitting at Dak Prescott to just flat-out not playing well. But, over the last few weeks, Carter has seemed to turn it on. It is worth noting that he was dealing with an injury in training camp, so maybe he is fully healthy now.

Another player who has turned it on recently is Jalyx Hunt. Hunt finished his rookie year strong by playing his best in the Super Bowl, but he also had a slow first half of the year. Luckily, it seems that he has started to turn it on, as in the last three games, he has two sacks and a pick-six. The Eagles will need production off the edge, and I think Hunt will continue to deliver it.

The Eagles Will Finish With a Top 2 Seed

With 8 games left in the regular season, the Eagles are only scheduled to play two teams that are currently in the playoffs if the season ended today. Those teams are the Lions and the Bears. While we all know there will probably be a loss we don’t see coming, the Eagles could very well win out, or come close to it.

To have as tough a schedule as they have had in the first half of the season and to be 7-2 is extremely impressive, and they have set themselves up now for the easier part of the schedule to build on their conference lead.
