The Philadelphia Eagles have locked down their head coach.
After winning the franchise’s second Super Bowl championship last season, Nick Sirianni has agreed to a multi-year contract extension with the team. Sirianni was heading into the final year of his original five-year contract with the Eagles.
“As an organization, we have always strived to create a championship culture of sustained success,” Eagles Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement following the deal’s announcement. “Nothing is more important to fostering such an environment than having tremendous leadership. Nick has embodied everything we were looking for in a head coach since we hired him four years ago. His authentic style of leadership, football intelligence, passion for the game, and growth mindset have helped to bring out the best in our team. I am excited for what the future holds for the Philadelphia Eagles.”
This was likely expected at some point during the offseason, as Lurie and Eagles general manager Howie Roseman have alluded to getting a new deal with Sirianni done. Now the Eagles lock down their head coach for years to come.
Sirianni was hired back in 2021 following a disastrous 4-11-1 2020 season, in which the Eagles fired at the time, fired their only head coach to win them a Super Bowl in Doug Pederson. The Eagles decided to hire someone who had ties with Pederson, as Sirianni was the offensive coordinator in Indianapolis with Pederson’s former OC, Frank Reich.
While all of the time with Sirianni hasn’t been sunshine and blooming flowers, Sirianni has proved doubters wrong over the years, cementing himself as one of the best coaches in the NFL. In four years in Philadelphia, Sirianni has been to two Super Bowls, winning one of them. He’s also one of only seven active head coaches with a Super Bowl win.
His 48-20 regular-season record and 54-23 record including playoffs give him the second-most wins in NFL history for a coach in his first four seasons. On top of that, Sirianni has never missed the postseason since joining the Eagles.
With a Super Bowl now in his resume, Sirianni and co. will look to continue to repeat the success of the 2024 season, and attempt to create an Eagles dynasty. The team is well set to continue to succeed, with multiple core players locked down for years to come and young rookies and draft picks on the horizon. Pair that with an extended head coach, and you have a recipe for success in the NFL.
