We are now three days away from the 2025 NFL Draft.

This draft is especially important for the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, as winning the Super Bowl has caused the team to lose several impactful players through free agency and trades. If the Eagles want any chance of not only repeating as champions but continuing to win at a high level, then acing this draft will be a huge key.

The team has eight picks overall, one in each of the first four rounds and four in the fifth round. Since they are the defending champs, they will pick at the end of each of the first four rounds, meaning finding talent will be even harder.

Now, I’d like to preface this by saying that I do not do trades in mocks as they are unpredictable. With that being said, I do think that it’s very likely that the Eagles do move up in the first round Thursday night for a safety. They’ll probably have to jump the Los Angeles Rams and the Baltimore Ravens, so look for them to move up to pick 24 or 25.

With that being said, here’s who I believe the Eagles will be selecting with their first three selections in the upcoming draft this weekend.

Round 1, Pick 32, James Pearce Jr, EDGE, Tennessee

While I think safety is the number one need for the Eagles, and Malaki Starks is who I think the team should target, unless they trade up, they should wait until the second round to take a guy instead of reaching on one in the first round. If they do that, I suggest targeting another position where they have spots to fill, that being an edge rusher, and why not James Pierce Jr. out of Tennessee?

This time last year, Pierce was mocked to be a sure-fire top-five pick in this year’s draft, and some experts even predicted that he could be the No. 1 overall selection. While his stock has dropped quite a bit, Pierce is still an incredible prospect who has the skills to be a great player in the NFL.

Standing at a staggering 6’5 245 lbs, Pierce is the definition of a new age edge rusher. For his size, he is as quick as he could be, running a 4.47 40-yard dash back at the combine. His best trait, no doubt, is his explosive first step, which allows him to get after the offensive line so well. His moveset, whether it’s a swim move or a slap to the hands, Pierce is so quick getting after the QB that it’s honestly absurd that he’s being mocked so low.

But there’s a reason. Many experts believe that Pierce’s lack of strength is his biggest flaw. There’s college strength and then there’s NFL strength, and adjusting to the next level is a tall task, but one in which, with the right coaching, can lead him to superstardom.

Round 2, Pick 64, Xavier Watts, S, Notre Dame

They don’t go safety round one, why not in round two? While Kevin Winston Jr. is an interesting prospect out of Penn State, Xavier Watts might be a little better and isn’t coming off a torn ACL.

Watts is a versatile ballhawk who can not only be a great center field safety but can also create multiple plays. He hits hard, is versatile in any team’s scheme, and is outstanding when it comes to play recognition. His downside is his coverage skills, as it’s something he’s struggled with throughout his time at Notre Dame, but putting that aside, Watts is still a great prospect.

The Eagles have gone all in on making their secondary younger, drafting Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in last year’s draft and also grabbing Reed Blankinship back in 2022 as an undrafted free agent. Adding Watts to this already young secondary could make it one of the best upcoming groups in the entire league.

Round 3, Pick 96, Jared Wilson, OG, Georgia

In this mock, the Eagles miss out on Malachi Starks, but still add a player from Georgia to join the Philly Dawgs. Jared Wilson is an interesting player as he was only a one-year starter with the Bulldogs in Athens. Primarily a center, Wilson can play guard as well and could be a very valuable depth piece for the Eagles moving forward.

Hailing from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Wilson is an interesting player as he was only a one-year starter with the Bulldogs in Athens. He stands at 6’3 310 lbs, and ran a 4.84 40-yard dash and jumped 9’4 on the broad jump. He thrives in pass coverages, and his quick hands and feet make him one of the most agile linemen in this year’s draft.

While he has the speed and agility, he lacks power. The main concern with Wilson is his weak first contact punch with defenders, and multiple scouting experts have stressed how he’ll need to play next to elite guards in the NFL if he has any chance of succeeding. Luckily for him, the Eagles have a very elite guard in Landon Dickerson, and he would fill in at the other guard spot. He has two All-Pro tackles in Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata to play next to.

The current Eagles center, Cam Jurgens, has not signed a new contract yet and has only one year remaining on his rookie deal. Jurgens and the Eagles will likely get a deal done in the future, but if the sides cannot, new plans will have to be made, and Wilson could be that plan.
