Phillies make an early morning splash, acquire Luis Arraez from Giants, Brooks Raley from Mets

Dave Dombrowski is not playing around this trade deadline.
He has woken up, is ready to make trades, and has done just that.
According to Jeff Passan, the Phillies have a deal that brings four-time All-Star and three-time batting champion Luis Arraez to Philadelphia. The Phillies will also receive relief pitcher Caleb Killian in this deal as well.
It came at a cost for the Phils, with them having to give up their #4 overall prospect, Ramon Marquez. Marquez is 3-0 in Single-A Clearwater with an ERA under two, striking out over 14 batters per nine innings. The other prospect heading to San Francisco is Marty Giar, a 13th-round selection in 2023 with a 4.50 ERA in High-A Jersey Shore.
But back to Arraez, who just represented the Giants in Philadelphia for the All-Star Game not that long ago. He is batting .324 this season in a resurgent prove-it year with the Giants, and is a career .318 hitter. Now, this isn’t the outfield upgrade the Phillies were looking for, but it is a major offensive upgrade, as someone who gets on base consistently and doesn’t strike out often.
Arraez has expressed that he wants to stay at 2nd base, and Todd Zolecki of MLB.com confirmed that Bryce Harper will likely be moving back to the outfield. Alec Bohm will man first base with Arraez at 2nd, Stott at 3rd, and Trea Turner at shortstop.
Killian, the reliever they also received, is under control for multiple seasons and holds a 4.26 ERA in 44 innings this season for the Giants, striking out 53 and walking only 20.
Minutes later, it was announced by Bob Nightengale of USA Today that the Phillies were also finalizing a deal for lefty reliever Brooks Raley from the New York Mets, who are surprisingly sellers at this deadline.
The Phillies have needed left-handed relief pitching for a while after the struggles and injuries to both Jose Alvarado and Tanner Banks, and Raley is a much-needed upgrade.
The Mets will receive two prospects: outfielder John Spikerman, who is ranked #27 in the Phillies top 30, and pitcher Luke Gabrysh. Both players are in High-A, with Spikerman batting .260 with a .759 OPS, and Gabrysh having a 3-8 record with a 5.14 ERA.
Raley, who is a free agent after this season, has a 1.96 ERA in 41.1 innings for the Mets. Outside of Luke Weaver, he’s been one of the best relievers for New York, and the Phillies are sure glad he’s on their side now. Brandon Marsh is 0-7 with six strikeouts, and Bryce Harper is 2-9 with five K’s.
Nightingale also expressed that the Phillies are still in the mix for a veteran rental starter, and the trade deadline is around eight hours away.
