The Eagles’ motto of building in the trenches took a great leap Monday morning.

The team agreed to terms with Cam Jurgens on a four-year, $68 million extension that includes $39.4 million guaranteed. He is locked in with Philadelphia through the 2029 season.

Jurgens was entering the final year of his rookie deal and is now the second-highest-paid center in the NFL, behind only Creed Humphrey of the Chiefs.

The Eagles now have four linemen under contract through the next four years: Jurgens (four years, $68 million through 2029), Jordan Mailata (three years, $66 million, 2028), Landon Dickerson (four years, $84 million through 2028), and Lane Johnson (one year, $25 million through 2027).

Jurgens, 25, was selected with the 51st overall pick in 2022, hand picked by Jason Kelce to become his successer upon retirement. He started 11 games at right tackle in 2023 before taking over at center this past season, becoming an integral piece of the Super Bowl championship team.

One of, if not the, biggest storyline going into the 2024 season was how much the Eagles would miss Kelce at center. Would Jurgens be able to pull block as well as Kelce? Would the tush push still be effective?

The transition was flawless.

Jurgens started 16 games last season, only missing Week 18 against the Giants, and was a Pro Bowler, becoming the youngest Eagles center to earn Pro Bowl recognition since Ken Farragut in 1953, who was also 25.
