As the NFL offseason rolls along, we’re less than three weeks away from one of the best parts of it, the NFL Draft. The 2025 NFL Draft takes place at the home of the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, where the Tennessee Titans will make the first selection.
The Philadelphia Eagles, the reigning Super Bowl champions, will currently make eight picks in the draft: one in each of the first four rounds and four in the fifth round. Because the Eagles won the Super Bowl, they will be making the 32nd selection in each of the first five rounds. The other three fifth-round selections will be from previous trades.
This past offseason, the Eagles saw multiple star players on both sides of the ball walk in free agency, choosing to earn Compensatory Picks for them. While getting something in return is good, losing multiple impactful players will be tough to replace. However, for teams to become dynasties, continue to be successful, and win multiple Super Bowls, drafting replacements for their players and finding more core players is the way to go.
So the Eagles will now ask multiple second-year players to fill into big roles for the 2025 season, and they now have to find more rookies to follow that same path. Using nflmockdraftdatabase.com‘s simulator, here’s a look at who Howie Roseman and the Eagles front office could be selecting in this year’s upcoming draft.
Round 1, Pick 32, Malaki Starks, S, Georgia
The Philly Dawgs have been a success so far for the Eagles, so I don’t see any reason for them to stop drafting players from the University of Georgia. Joining Nolan Smith, Jalen Carter, Nakobe Dean, Jordan Davis, Kelee Ringo, Lewis Cine, and newcomer Azeez Ojulari, Malaki Starks would be the perfect addition to an Eagles’ secondary that lost multiple players.
A former five-star athlete, Starks was an outstanding player at Georgia. In his three years, he earned first and second team All-American honors, as well as being a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski award (nation’s top defender), and a two-time finalist for the Jim Thorpe award (nation’s top DB). Starks led the Bulldogs in tackles in 2024 with 77 and also grab one interception.
At the combine, Starks measured in at 6’1 and 197 lbs, and ran a 4.5 40-yard dash, and recorded a 33-inch vertical. Starks is a very smart and physical safety who will fill a huge void left by C.J Gardner-Johnson, who was traded to the Houston Texans for Kenyon Green and other draft picks. While Starks may not make it towards the end of the first round, with mocks placing him from picks 10 to the early second round, if he’s available at pick 32, it would be a home run selection for the Eagles.
Round 2, Pick 64, J.T. Tuimoloau, EDGE, Ohio State
The Eagles said goodbye to edge rusher Josh Sweat after seven years with the team. If there’s one thing the Eagles like to do, it’s building the trenches, and they love drafting offensive and defensive linemen.
Meet J.T. Tuimoloau, a four-year player for the Ohio State Buckeyes who was the unofficial captain of the team during his time in Columbus. Tuimoloau played in 55 games as a Buckeye, was named first-team All-Big Ten three times, and recorded 23.5 sacks and 144 tackles during his four seasons.
While he may lack some speed, Tuimoloau stands at 6’4 and 265 lbs, and uses his strength and size to his advantage. His power as an edge rusher is one of the best in the entire class, and his long arm length will only help him on rushes. Replacing Sweat will be a challenge for the Eagles, but Tuimoloau is a prime candidate and someone who, a few years from now, could be a difference-maker for Vic Fangio’s defense.
Round 3, Pick 96, Harold Fannin Jr, TE, Bowling Green
The tight end position is a very interesting one for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2025. The current starting tight end, Dallas Goedert, has been a fantastic player during his time in the City of Brotherly Love, coming up with big moments and big plays during his seven seasons.
However, Goedert is in the final year of his second contract with the Eagles, and because of that, he could be someone who is moved during either the draft or before the 2025 season. It’s very unlikely that the Eagles pay Goedert next offseason, as his price is too valuable for the Eagles to afford. So, either Philadelphia will keep Goedert for next season, let him walk in free agency and acquire a Compensatory Pick for him, or trade him soon and draft a replacement for him.
I believe that no matter what the Eagles do, I believe they will address the future of the tight end room in this draft and pick up a huge steal at pick 96 in Harold Fannin Jr. Fannin had a phenomenal 2024 at Bowling Green, setting the record for most receptions and receiving yards by a tight end with 117 catches and 1,555 yards, while also grabbing 10 touchdowns.
At the combine, Fannin clocked in a 4.71 40 time and recorded a 9’10” broad jump. His blocking ability is suspect, but his ability to be a playmaker in the passing game is a huge make-up for it. Fannin would be a fantastic young player who, with the right coaching, could develop into a great option in the Eagles’ offense.
Round 4, Pick 134, Jackson Slater, OG, Sacramento State
The Eagles have four out of five spots filled on their offensive line, with the right guard spot open. They lost Mekhi Becton to free agency after only one year with the team, and have multiple options to fill his spot. Kenyon Green was acquired from Houston, and Tyler Steen returns for his third year.
While one of those two guys will likely win the starting job, I mentioned it already, Philadelphia loves building up the trenches. They will no doubt draft offensive linemen for depth, and Sacramento State’s Jackson Slater is a great option for a day 3 pick.
Slater was a four-year starter for the Hornets, primarily at left guard. He suffered a knee injury in 2024 and missed time, but has rehabbed and should be good to go for the 2025 season. He ran a 5.01 40-yard dash at the combine while also recording 31 reps on the bench press. Slater played primarily at left guard but has spent time at center, which would be very valuable to the Eagles.
Now, yes, drafting guys from FCS schools can be risky, but if you can play, teams will find you, and Slater is a fantastic player. Getting Slater to learn from the best offensive line coach in the NFL in Jeff Stoutland, could do wonders for him. He would need time to develop, but Philadelphia would be a great place for him to develop in.
Round 5, Pick 161, Jaydon Blue, HB, Texas
Saquon Barkley is the Eagles running back one and the best back in the NFL. However, believe it or not, he is human. The Eagles used Barkley a lot in 2024, and wear and tear is a very real thing. Making sure Barkley remains healthy for the playoffs is key to the Eagles continuing to succeed. They already signed running back A.J. Dillon to be the backup for Barkley and have Will Shipley as well, but Jaydon Blue is a very good running back as well.
Blue stands at only 5’9 but is quick as could be. He ran a 4.38 40 at the combine, which ranked second out of all halfbacks. His quick feet and ability to make plays in both the running and passing game will make him a valuable bench piece for any team that drafts him. With the Eagles, he likely wouldn’t see many reps, but could be a huge passing game asset for them.
Round 5, Pick 164, Seth McLaughlin, C, Ohio State
More offensive line depth. Before 2024, Seth McLaughlin was poised to hear his name called on either Day 2 or possibly in the first round if his year went well. McLaughlin spent four years at Alabama being the center who took over for Landon Dickerson after he went off to the NFL. Using his extra Covid season, McLaughlin transferred to Ohio State after head coach Nick Saban announced his retirement.
At Ohio State, McLaughlin dominated, winning the Rimington Trophy (nation’s top center), was named a Second-team All-American, and First-team All-Big Ten. However, his great season was cut short after he suffered an Achilles tear in practice late in the season and missed the final six games of the year for the Buckeyes.
McLaughlin no doubt has the talent, has very quick feet, and picks up blitzers very well. The big question mark that teams have is what kind of player they get coming off the Achilles tear. If McLaughlin can rehab and get back to the player he was, he has a chance to be a great pro in the NFL.
Round 5, Pick 167, J.J. Pegues, DL, Ole Miss
Build up the trenches! The other Ole Miss defensive lineman, Walter Nolan, could be the pick for the Eagles in the first round, but his teammate J.J. Pegues may be just as good, if not better. In 2024, Pegues was named Third-team All-SEC. recording 42 tackles, 13.5 TFLs with 3.5 sacks. On top of putting up great numbers on defense, Pegues also spent time on the offensive side of the ball.
Before transferring to Ole Miss, Pegues was a tight end at Auburn. With the Rebels, he mainly played defensive tackle but also played fullback, and rushed for seven touchdowns last season.
At 325 lbs, Pegues is a force to be reckoned with. His weight may be an issue for the Eagles’ defensive line, but if they can make it work for Jordan Davis, they can make it work for Pegues.
Round 5, Pick 167, Jack Kiser, LB, Notre Dame
Like most seasons for the Eagles, linebacker has some spots to be filled. All-Pro Zack Baun is back, which is huge for the group. However, the other starter, Nakobe Dean, will miss the beginning of next season recovering from a knee injury. The man who filled in for Dean, Oren Burks, left in free agency, leaving Jeriemiha Trotter Jr as the only other inside linebacker option. The Eagles have potential in Trott Jr, but depth wouldn’t hurt.
That brings in Jack Kiser. A six-year senior from Notre Dame, Kiser was a team captain in 2024 for the Fighting Irish. He set a school record with 70 games played over his six years, and recorded 275 tackles and four interceptions. While it’s unlikely Kiser will be a star at the next level, his high IQ and scrappy play will help him remain a backup with a chance to become a full-time player.
