Phillies ace Zack Wheeler has been named a 2024 NL Cy Young finalist. It’s the second time in his career that he has been named a finalist for the Cy Young.

Wheeler is joined by Atlanta Braves left-hander Chris Sale and rookie right-hander Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates as finalists for the award. Sale won the National League Triple Crown this season, recording 18 wins, a 2.38 ERA, and 225 strikeouts. He is currently the favorite to win the award. Skenes was called up to the majors in May and immediately burst onto the scene. He finished his rookie campaign with an 11-3 record, 170 strikeouts, and a 1.93 ERA, however, his era does not qualify as he only made 23 appearances on the season.

It was another outstanding season for Wheeler, who finished his 2024 campaign third in the Majors with a 2.57 ERA, fourth in innings pitched with 200, tied for third in strikeouts with 224, and third in WHIP with a 0.96 across 32 starts.

In his five seasons as a Phillie, Wheeler has continued to show that he is one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. Since joining Philadelphia in 2020, he’s racked up 829.1 innings and 899 strikeouts, the most strikeouts by any Phillies pitcher since his signing.

Wheeler was also named an All-Star this season for the second time in his career, the first since the previous time he was named a Cy Young finalist in 2021.

The NL Cy Young winner will be announced on Wednesday, November 20, at 6:00 pm ET on MLB Network.
