Another day, another awful performance by the Philadelphia 76ers as the team wrapped up their three-game West Coast road trip with a loss 116-106 to the Los Angeles Lakers. It’s the fourth consecutive loss for the 76ers and the seventh overall on the season.

Philadelphia was without All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey after it was announced that the 24-year-old would miss a couple of weeks after suffering a right hamstring injury in the team’s Wednesday night loss to the Clippers.

It was unusual faces who shined in the loss with rookie Jared McCain scoring 18 points, drilling four threes, while Guerschon Yabusele had one of his better games as a 76er, finishing with 14 points and five rebounds while shooting 5-for-6 from the field. For the Lakers, LeBron James secured his second triple-double of the season with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists, while Anthony Davis led the way with 31 points and nine rebounds.

Right away the Lakers were ready for battle as they came shooting the lights out. They opened the contest on a 23-10 run hitting nine of their first 11 shots. While the 76ers were able to fight back and shorten the deficit thanks to clutch shots from Caleb Martin and KJ Martin, the hot start from the Lakers helped them maintain a 36-29 lead after the first 12 minutes of play.

Quarter two started similarly to the first, with the Lakers continuing to knock down big shots. However, the 76ers finally came alive and began a run to get back in the game. It started with three consecutive threes from Yabusele and McCain.

After back-and-forth shots from both teams, the 76ers got big buckets from Drummond and Geroge to tie the game at 55 and took the lead after free throws from Kyle Lowry. That lead didn’t last long as the Lakers came right back with buckets from James, Davis, and Reaves to retake a 68-60 lead after the first half.

As the second half began, the 76ers opened up strong with back-to-back buckets from Drummond and Kelly Oubre Jr. to cut the deficit to four. However, that didn’t last long. The Lakers then went on a 10-run with clutch buckets from James and threes from Reaves and Rui Hachimura to increase their lead to 14. The Lakers were able to control that lead for the remainder of the third quarter and make it 96-81 heading into the fourth.

With only 12 minutes of game time left, the 76ers had plenty of ground to make up but did almost the opposite of that. They were no match for James and Davis and continued to not be able to knock down consecutive shots. After trading baskets throughout the quarter, Los Angeles was able to hold on for the 116-106 victory.

Help is nearly on the way for the 76ers as Joel Embiid will wrap up his three-game suspension after the Sunday, November 10 matchup against the Charlotte Hornets.
