The Philadelphia Phillies kicked off game 2 of their homestand against the Miami Marlins in a bad place having lost their last 4 games in a row. Tyler Phillips took the mound for his hometown team and had a rough start to stay the least letting up 5 runs in 4.1 innings pitched.
The first scores of the game came courtesy of the Miami Marlins as Jonah Bride hit his 4th home run of the season to secure a 3-0 lead early in the 1st inning.
The Phillies responded in the second inning with an Edmundo Sosa double play that would buy enough time for Bryson Stott to score from third and make it a 3-1 ballgame.
The Phillies would follow a similar format to score in the third inning as Bryce Harper would hit into a fielder’s choice play at second that would score Johan Rojas from third and slim the Marlins lead down to 1.
This slim lead wouldn’t stay for long as in the top of the 4th Sanchez would knock a single into right field that would score the Marlins shortstop Xavier Edwards and extend the lead to 4-2.
In that same inning, Bride would send a sacrifice fly into center field to draw Jake Burger in for a run and expand the Marlin’s lead to 5-2.
The Phillies, in desperation, would be propelled into the lead in the bottom of the 4th off the bat of Kyle Schwarber as Kyle would launch an opposite-field grand slam 376 feet that would give the Phillies a 6-5 lead.
Continuing to put pressure on the Marlins the Phillies would draw some more runs in the 7th inning as Harper would score off the base hit of Bohm stretching their lead to 7-5.
The final run of the game would come off the bat of J.T. Realmuto as he would slice a ball down the right field line drawing in 2 runs and giving us our final score of 9-5.
The Phillies would pull away with the win and give the fanbase a much-needed breath of fresh air during a rough stretch of games.
