13 minutes before the trade deadline, Dave Dombrowski and the Phillies struck.

The Phillies are acquiring left-handed reliever Tanner Banks from the White Sox. In exchange, they have sent High-A prospect infielder William Bergolla to Chicago.

Fansided’s Robert Murray was the first to report the news.

32-year-old Banks is in his third year of his career, all with the White Sox. He is now set to be the fourth lefty in the Phillies’ bullpen.

In his 41 appearances this season, Banks has thrown 48 innings, struck out 55, and has a 4.13 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP.

He is most effective against left-handed hitters. This season Banks has faced 83 lefties and struck out 28 of them, good for a 34 percent strikeout percentage. Left-handers are hitting .184 off of him, including just one home run.

Banks has recorded more than three outs in 16 of his 41 appearances. I would project him to be a guy they can use for multiple innings, which would decrease Yunior Marte and Jose Ruiz‘s appearances.

Banks is not eligible for free agency until after 2028.

Bergolla this season for the Jersey Shore BlueClaws is hitting .295 with a .795 OPS.
