Starting Wednesday, the Phillies will be the twenty-second team in Major League Baseball to sport a jersey advertisement path. Independence Blue Cross, which has reportedly been on Phillies’ owner John Middleton’s “target list” for a while, will put its “IBX” patch on the right sleeve of left-handed hitters and pitchers and on the left sleeve of righties, allowing the patch to get the most camera time. Each player’s number was previously on this sleeve, but they were removed at the beginning of the season once it was announced that the Phillies would have a sponsor at some point during the regular season.

Independence Blue Cross has been a sponsor of the Phillies for the past few seasons, and an IBX patch can also be found on the Flyers’ home jerseys.

Given that these are set to be debuted against the New York Yankees on Wednesday, we will likely get the first glance of the new patch on the Phils’ alternate cream jerseys, followed by their road grays over the weekend. It is expected that the patch will match the sky-blue tone of their company colors.
