Last 2-Minute Report explains mistakes costing Sixers Game 2

Just from looking at it once, we all know the officials messed up the ending of the Sixers’ 104-101 loss to the Knicks in Game 2 of Round 1.

Now, the NBA put it in words.

Here is the rundown from the NBA’s Last Two-Minute Report released Tuesday:

With 1:14 remaining, OG Anunoby should have been called for a defensive three-second violation. The no-call ended up fine as Tyrese Maxey sunk a three on the play.
After Donte DiVincenzo came out with a loose ball, Joel Embiid fouled him with 34.7 seconds to go. A foul there would have avoided Jalen Brunson‘s corner three moments later to cut their lead to two.
Brunson fouled Maxey as he tried to move off an out-of-bounds play. The report reads Brunson pulled Maxey’s jersey “away from his body, which affects Maxey’s ability to secure the pass.”
After Maxey was not able to grab Kyle Lowry’s pass and the ball went into the air, Josh Hart fouled Maxey. Per the report, Hart “initiates lower body contact that causes Maxey to lose his balance and fall to the floor.”
At the 27.2-second mark, the report says, “An attempt to call a timeout by Coach Nurse (PHI) during this play is neither recognized nor granted by the officials.”
3.5 seconds later, the report says, “An attempt to call a timeout by Coach Nurse (PHI) during this play is neither recognized nor granted by the officials; the timeout request is simultaneous to Hart making contact with the ball and PHI not having possession.”

This report, to me, basically says, “Yeah, we messed up. Our bad. Nothing we can do. Here’s a video.”

Most notably to me, the report does not agree with Nick Nurse’s claim that he should have been granted a timeout during the stretch that led up to DiVincenzo’s go-ahead three.
