Ivan Fedotov will be in Philadelphia for the next few seasons.

He and the Flyers have agreed to a two-year, $6.5 million contract extension. The deal carries an average annual value of $3.25 million, as he is locked in through 2026.

The deal was reported earlier Tuesday morning by TSN’s Darren Dreger, but the Flyers made it officially later in the day.

Fedotov is interesting. He joined the Flyers after being drafted in 2015 late this past season after a turbulent few years in his home country, Russia, that involved lots of drama, and was thrown right into the middle of a playoff race days after arriving in Philadelphia.

Fedotov will turn 28 in November, stands at 6-foot-7, and, for now, will be a part of the Flyers’ goaltending duo for next season with Samuel Ersson

It is tough to say what Fedotov is right now. He was put in a really tough spot, posting an underwhelming .811 save percentage and 4.95 goals against average in three games (two starts). However, he was only in North America for a couple of days before being thrown into action against the world’s top talent.

The hope is that a full offseason will give him time to settle down and make the adjustments he would have had more time to do earlier, as well as build off the signs of promise that were shown throughout his first few games.

This extension just kind of feels like a “we will see what we get” kind of deal by Daniel Briere. If these two years do not work out, or a trade is open, they may make a move. They also still have Alexei Kolosov coming over sometime in the future, who they drafted last season.
