The NFL announced earlier today that to open the season, your Eagles will be traveling all the way south to Sao Paulo Brazil to face the Packers.
It will be the NFL’s first game held in South America in the league’s over 100-year history. Be ready to learn some Portuguese as Voar Águias Voar is the translation of Fly Eagles Fly.
The game will be on Friday, September 6th at Corinthians Arena, the home of the Brazilian soccer team the Corinthians. The arena has been used for major events in the past, notably the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
For the NFL, this is another step in growing the game internationally, and this comes not long after they announced the Global Markets Program. That is where NFL teams are essentially assigned countries to grow their team’s branding in. The Eagles were the only team assigned to Ghana and were paired with the Rams in Australia and New Zealand.
The Eagles will have to take on the Packers, who led by Jordan Love surprised many people with just how good they were last year. They finished with a 9-8 record and became the first 7 seed in NFL history to beat the 2-seeded Dallas Cowboys. They then traveled to San Fransisco and gave the eventual NFC champs a run for their money. They only got better in the offseason as well adding Xavier McKinney and Josh Jacobs.
This game will no doubt be a massive test for the Eagles as they try to rebound from the team’s collapse last season.
