The Philadelphia Flyers (32-23-7) took on the St. Louis Blue (31-26-3) back at home tonight in the Wells Fargo Center. The Flyers although they have been inconsistent lately are still contenders in this year’s playoff race and plan to keep it that way. The Flyers took on the Senators on Saturday winning 6-2 allowing them to come into this matchup with confidence.

Both teams had an even 1st period of hockey as they were quite well-matched. Neither team couldn’t find a leg up on the other until the Flyers found hope late into the period. With a minute and 8 seconds to go in the 1st The Flyers were able to capitalize on a goal that left St. Louis scrambling. Off of a shot from Ryan Poehling, the puck was rebounded by Scott Laughton where he was able to crash the net and put the Flyers ahead.

The 2nd period stayed consistent with the theme as both teams played very evenly. The Flyers had the advantage with the 1-0 lead but the Blues were nowhere near going to back down. Kevin Hayes broke away and was able to skate past the Flyers defense. After approaching Samuel Ersson he botched his shot and the puck went loose from his stick. Luckily for the Blues, the puck slid right past Ersson for a Blues goal that left us even at 1-1 heading into the 3rd.

The 3rd continued on like most of the game with no team in full control of the pace of play. There were glimpses of hope for each side of the ice as they almost found the upper hand that would’ve secured this game. Both teams went scoreless in this period and that took us into overtime!

Overtime was a game played by using fatigue as a strategy as both teams seemingly tried to play keep-away to wear down the opponent. All in all both teams went scoreless and we headed into a shootout.

Sean Couturier botched the first shot.

Robert Thomas lifted a shot into Ersson’s left pad keeping us tied 0-0.

Tyson Foerster was blocked with ease by Jordan Binnington.

Jake Neighbours sent one right past Ersson to take the lead for the Blues 1-0

Morgan Frost snuck one by him that gave us the chance for round 4 at 1-1.

Brayden Schenn just missed his shot sending us into Round 4.

Owen Tippett fell short on a shot.

Pavel Buchnevich scored the winning goal in round 4 with a backhanded shot that won the Blues the game 2-1.
