It feels like the Eagles have not played football in a month, but they are finally back tonight against the Chiefs.
Two of the NFL’s best will face off tonight in a Super Bowl 57 rematch. Obviously, the Chiefs got the better of the Eagles in that Super Bowl, but the Eagles are hoping to get some revenge tonight.
Dear Travis (Eagles Version)
If the Eagles are going to win tonight’s game they have to slow down Travis Kelce. The Chiefs offense is not the same high-powered offense that it has been in years past. In both of the Chiefs’ losses, the opponents held Travis to under 60 yards receiving. In those two games, the Chiefs scored a total of 29 points. The key to their offense is number 87.
The Eagles will have to get creative in how they plan to stop Kelce, and one of the ways they may do that is with newly acquired Safety Kevin Byard. Byard has matched up with Kelce in the past during his time in Tennessee, so he is a possibility to cover him. This is an opportunity for Sean Desai to show the Chiefs some different looks than they saw last year, and hopefully, the outcome is different as well.
Big Test For Eagles Offense
The biggest reason the Chiefs have been winning games this season is because of their defense. The Chiefs defense is currently ranked 4th in the NFL with opponents averaging just 288.2 yards per game and have scored just 16 touchdowns. This will be a massive test of the Eagles offense.
The Eagles were able to move the ball well on the Chiefs in the Super Bowl last year, but the Jalen Hurts fumble was a costly one. The Eagles have to win the turnover battle tonight. The Eagles and Hurts have done a better job of keeping the ball safe, but if they lose the turnover battle tonight they likely lose the game.
The Eagles also struggled to run the ball in the Super Bowl. With Cam Jurgens returning tonight hopefully, it will help the Eagles running game get back on track. Since he went out with an injury the Eagles running game has not been the same. The Eagles need to get D’Andre Swift and the running game is going to be able to put away games late. Over the last few games teams have had a chance to come back because they were unable to run the clock down late in the game with the running game. With these tough games coming up they will need the running game to salt away games.
Andy After the Bye
Andy Reid currently holds a record of 21-3 in his career coming off a bye week. The future Hall of Fame coach did a great job against the Eagles in the Super Bowl with over a week to prepare, and he will have the same amount of time for this game.
There were multiple miscommunications in last year’s Super Bowl from a defensive standpoint for the Eagles. With also an extra week to prepare for this game, hopefully, new defensive coordinator Sean Desai will have a better game plan for Reid and Mahomes than Johnathan Gannon did last season.
