Philadelphia Eagles Welcome A.J. Brown & Jordan Davis

On Thursday April 28, the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft took place. Many Eagles fans went into the draft with a lot of nerves and plenty of anticipation. Howie Roseman has been known to mess up drafts in the past and most fans always know that a repeat of that is possible. Perhaps his most notorious awful pick was taking Jalen Reagor over Justin Jefferson.
That being said, last year’s draft was a surprisingly good one. The Eagles drafted wide receiver Devonta Smith who fully lived up to the hype. If the Eagles were more of a pass-first offense, he would have gotten more credit and recognition from the rest of the NFL. The Eagles drafted players like Milton Williams and Kenneth Gainwell who have both looked very promising thusfar.
This year, Howie Roseman had 3 first round picks to work with and he did not disappoint. Well before the draft, the Eagles moved from picks 15, 16, and 19, to picks 15 and 18 and a first round pick in the 2023 draft. While the draft was occurring, the Eagles traded up for pick 13 as they sent the Texans picks 15, 124, 162, and 166. After trading up the Eagles selected monster defensive lineman Jordan Davis out of Georgia. It was a pick that confused some, but Davis is truly a freak of nature. With a lot of uncertainties with the future of our defensive line, it was a very smart move drafting someone that could be the next Fletcher Cox… or better.
Now for the big news… The Eagles traded picks 15 and 101 to the Tennesee Titans for their star receiver AJ Brown. This gives Jalen Hurts some much-needed help and sets their offense up for tons of success. This is a Howie Roseman masterpiece if I’ve ever seen one. It was so much of a steal that Titan’s HC, Mike Vrabel, was seen getting out of his seat in disbelief before the Titans made their pick.
AJ Brown is a receiver that has had 2 1,000+ yard seasons in his first 3 years of his career. The main concern with Brown is the fact that he’s slightly injury prone. That being said, Brown has played over 13 games in each 3 of his NFL seasons. He’s also only 24 years old and is still on the rise in his playing career. After being traded Brown signed a 4-year $100M contract extension with the Eagles. This puts the narrative that “nobody wants to play with Hurts” right to bed.
The NFL draft is far from over and there are still players like Andrew Booth and Nakobe Dean for the Eagles to get. Hopefully Howie can continue his magic and keep this draft going in the right direction.
