The Philadelphia Phillies remain on the road, heading to Los Angeles Monday night, to take on Millville Mike and the Angels, in a three-game series of teams heading opposite ways.

Rob Thomson‘s team is heading north fresh off a three-game sweep of the San Diego Padres, their second sweep in three series (a sweep of the White Sox preceded a four-game split with Cincinnati). The Phillies have been powered by their starting pitching, posting ERA’s of 1.93, 3.20, 1.32, 2.96, and 1.33 (according to Statmuse). Those numbers exclude recently activated Taijuan Walker who pitched 6.1 innings in Sunday’s 8-6 win. He allowed 8 hits and 6 earned runs with four strikeouts and two walks.

Another key figure in the Phillies recent success has been Alec Bohm. The blossoming 27-year-old third baseman has twenty-three hits, totaling forty-one total bases, with twelve extra-base hits (nine doubles, three home runs) ten runs, and fifteen runs batted in over the last ten games.

In the other dugout are the Los Angeles Angels, who have been swept in two of their last three series. The most recent sweep was at the hands of the Minnesota Twins over the weekend where they were outscored 32-13. The Angels average 4.25 runs per game led by Mike Trout‘s league lead-tying 10 home runs and Taylor Ward‘s twenty-three RBIs. Their pitching has been the issue, posting a 5.01 team ERA, 28th out of 30 teams in the majors, though the Phillies will face two of their better starters.
