After the Philadelphia 76ers acquired Boston Celtics’ superstar Jaylen Brown in a blockbuster trade Wednesday evening, they’re still looking to acquire one of the greatest players in NBA history.
According to Tony Jones of The Athletic, the Sixers are among the teams expressing interest in free agent LeBron James. James, who played for the Los Angeles Lakers for eight seasons, is an unrestricted free agent.

If the 76ers were able to land James, this would be another blockbuster move that instantly improves their odds of winning not just the first seed in the Eastern Conference, but also the NBA Finals.
The Sixers have the depth and scoring for him to easily fit into a starting role, which would likely send V.J. Edgecombe or new signee Dean Wade to the bench. The loss of Quentin Grimes and Kelly Oubre, Jr. sets James up perfectly to fit into the roster.
Even though James is still 41, he remains one of the premier players in the NBA. He can score, he can rebound, and he can be a great mentor, especially for Edgecombe and the Sixers’ newest rookie, Labaron Philon, Jr.

James has also expressed that he will play for a contender on a league-minimum contract. The Sixers have firmly established themselves in the Eastern Conference conversation as one of the league’s top teams, and this move could get them over the second-round hump they have faced in recent postseason play.
James’s former teams, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat, have also expressed interest in bringing him back. The Golden State Warriors have shown interest in the four-time champion as well.
James will be heading into his 24th season. The 22-time All-Star averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists last season with Los Angeles.
