It did not look good when it happened, and it does not look much better now.

The Phillies placed Adolis Garcia on the 60-day injured list with a right latissimus dorsi tear Friday afternoon. In his place, the team recalled outfielder Gabriel Rincones Jr. from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He will wear No. 17 and make his major league debut Friday night in Milwaukee.

Additionally, Derek Hill reported to the club and will wear No. 49, and outfielder Steward Berroa was placed on the paternity list.

Garcia suffered the injury when throwing home from right field during the seventh inning of Wednesday’s game in Toronto. He was in a lot of discomfort immediately and was removed from the game. The Phillies, who already are short in outfield depth, traded a pair of prospects to the Chicago White Sox for Hill on Thursday.

Garcia, who signed a one-year, $10 million prove-it deal with the Phils this offseason, was finally starting to find his swing after an abysmal start. While his .192/.222/.538 slash line over his last seven games may not sound enticing, but it is better than a .125/.218/.182 line, which he posted in May. The 33-year-old was also playing outstanding defense in right with a bullet of an arm, which was a step-up from the defense the Phillies had in that corner previously.

Rincones injured his knee during the offseason and was not activated from his rehab assignment until May 26. Since then, he has gone 11-for-46 in 12 games with Lehigh Valley. Still, the 25-year-old left-handed outfielder has some serious pop. The 6’3, 225-pound Florida native is particularly strong against right-handers, which sets up the platoon with Hill. The two are different — Rincones is not a strong defender with pop, while Hill is a solid defender and has speed — and will shuffle around in right field.

Rincones, who is the Phillies’ No. 6-ranked prospect, will make his major league debut against standout sophomore Jacob Misiorowski in Milwaukee on Friday night. Pretty tough way to start your career. Here is the rest of the Phillies’ lineup, featuring Tanner Banks opening for Andrew Painter:

  1. DH Kyle Schwarber
  2. SS Trea Turner
  3. 1B Bryce Harper
  4. LF Brandon Marsh
  5. 3B Alec Bohm
  6. 2B Bryson Stott
  7. RF Gabriel Rincones Jr.
  8. C J.T. Realmuto
  9. CF Justin Crawford
