The Flyers have traded Bobby Brink to the Minnesota Wild for defenseman David Jiricek. The trade is a one-for-one swap.
Jiricek was the 6th overall pick by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2022 NHL Draft. This is his second time being traded. Jiricek is a 6’4” righty, who was taken right before the Flyers selected Cutter Gauthier one pick before him.

Brink was a name on multiple teams’ radars leading up to the deadline. The Flyers have too much young talent at the wing position, and this clears the way for top prospects to emerge. The 24-year-old Brink is heading into unrestricted free agency after the season
Brink, who is originally from Minnesota, has 13 goals and 13 assists in 55 games this season. Jiricek has split time between the NHL and AHL this season, with 2 goals and 8 assists in 24 AHL games. In 25 games in the NHL, he has not recorded a point so far this season.

Jiricek has big right-shot value and offensive tools that give him potential, especially on the power play. The Flyers are trading away a consistent winger for a higher-upside, higher-risk player at a position of weakness.
It’s a low-risk, high-reward trade from general manager Daniel Briere, and the first before the 3:00 P.M. trade deadline.
