After an impressive 7-3 victory over the league-leading Colorado Avalanche, the Philadelphia Flyers came home riding a three-game point streak to play in a huge division game against the New York Islanders in hopes of winning their third of the year against the Isles. Instead, the Flyers were shut out for only the second time this season, 4-0.

How could a great performance on Friday lead to the disappointing letdown back at home? This inconsistency is nothing new for Philadelphia. The Flyers need to figure out how to keep their momentum rolling, especially after a road trip and now coming home to the Philadelphia fans. They also need to figure out how to get their legs moving when they have two days off.

With the Flyers playing better when they get a day off rather than a back-to-back situation, one would think that the Flyers would be at their best when given two days off. This, however, has not been the case, as the Flyers cannot seem to get rolling when given an extra day, something they need to figure out.

Overall, tonight was a really disappointing loss in a massive game.

Sorokin’s Fifth Shutout Against Philadelphia

Coming into tonight, Ilya Sorokin had some of the best stats against the Flyers before he earned his fifth shutout against Philadelphia, handing them their second goose egg of the season. The Flyers’ two shutouts have fallen to two goalies the Flyers cannot seem to solve, with the first being suffered by Andrei Vasilevskiy.

In his career against the Flyers, Sorokin has started 17 games, winning 11 of them and only losing three in regulation. With that, Sorokin has a career save percentage of .944 against the Flyers and a goals against average of 1.53 goals.

After tonight, the Flyers have given Sorokin over 500 shots in his career, but once again fall, this time in his fifth career shutout against the orange and black.

Flyers Cough Up Shorty

Even though Denver Barkey gave the Flyers a good look on the power play back in Denver, the Flyers’ power play fell once again, despite having a good first power play of the game. The man advantage looked how it had looked throughout the year. The Flyers fail to win faceoffs during power plays, which ends up not only taking away power play time, but also gives the other team a possible rush the other way.

The Islanders found an opportunity to find a rush tonight, and they did not hesitate, as they punched home the first goal of the night on a Flyers’ power play. Though it was the only goal scored in the first period by any team, anyone could tell that there wasn’t much life inside on the bench.

DeAngelo Scores Against His Former Team

Tonight brought a moment for Tony DeAngelo and a painful one for Flyers fans. The Islanders defenseman scored his first career goal against Philadelphia, doing so against both his former team and the team he grew up supporting as a South Jersey native.

With not many fans liking the character of DeAngelo, seeing him score that goal on their power play hurts, especially since that goal gave the Islanders a 3-0 lead, slowing the Flyers down even more.

Flyers Hope to Regain Momentum Back on the Road

Throughout the third period tonight, the Flyers were more focused on Columbus on Wednesday rather than the rest of the game tonight. Against the Blue Jackets, the Flyers need to want it more, as a win in regulation tonight could have put them back in a playoff spot. Though the Flyers have a great track record after a regulation loss this season, it is frustrating for the fans who shoveled their driveways and cleared their cars to go down to tonight’s game.
