Phillies Stay or Go: Jordan Romano

The Phillies signed Jordan Romano to a one-year, $8.5 million deal back in December, following the losses of Carlos Estevez and Jeff Hoffman.
Romano had been elite, as in 2022 and 23, he posted a 2.49 ERA over 123 innings, including 72 saves. He had a really bad 2024, where he suffered a right elbow impingement, which required season-ending arthroscopic surgery. The hope was that Romano could revert to his former self and become the guy at the back end of the bullpen for the Phillies.
In short, it was a disaster.
Romano pitched in 49 games for the Phillies, carrying a career-high 8.23 ERA across 42.2 innings. Romano was removed from the closer role quickly and placed on the 15-day injured list on August 26 with right middle finger inflammation. We did not see him after that point, and we never will again.
