Eagles Make Trade For Cornerback Jaire Alexander From Ravens

It’s another cornerback trade for the Philadelphia Eagles.
The NFL trade deadline is less than three days away, and the Eagles have once again made a move to help improve their secondary. Philadelphia has traded a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for cornerback Jaire Alexander and a 2027 seventh-round pick.
With the trade, the Eagles have also made the moves of placing safety Marcus Epps and outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari on Injured Reserve.
This is the second trade this week that the Eagles have made for a defensive back, as earlier this week, they sent wide receiver John Metchie III and a 2027 sixth-round to the Jets for cornerback Michael Carter II and a 2027 seventh-round.
Alexander, 28, was born in Philadelphia before moving south when he was a toddler. He eventually committed to the University of Louisville, where he was a Second-Team All-ACC and which helped him get selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers.
He spent seven years in Green Bay, where he was a two-time Second-team All-Pro and Pro Bowler. Injuries in recent years caused frustration between the corner and the Packers, and he was eventually released because of it. He then signed a one-year deal this past offseason with Baltimore and appeared in only two games with the Ravens.
In his eight seasons in the NFL, Alexander has recorded 245 tackles, 70 pass deflections, and 12 interceptions. At his best, he’s one of the top corners in the NFL and still under 30, and if he can stay healthy, the Eagles may have stolen a top cornerback for a late-round pick swap.
This trade now gives the Eagles a deep cornerback room of Alexander, Carter, Quinyon Mitchell, and Cooper DeJean. Who will start at what spot is yet to be determined, but the Alexander trade can allow him and Mithcell to play outside and DeJean to remain in at the nickel spot primarily. DeJean can also shift outside at times, and Carter can spend time at nickel.
