After their sweep in New York last week, the Philadelphia Phillies have wasted no time in taking their anger out on the struggling Atlanta Braves, who currently sit at fourth in the National League East.

After taking the first two out of four in the series, the Phillies continued to find a way to pull it off tonight, with a walk-off from Trea Turner after a nine-inning pitchers’ duel leading to the 3-2 win.

Though the bats were not flying through today, other aspects of the game showed up big, like the defense. If it weren’t for the outstanding fielding and arm accuracy from Alec Bohm over at third base and Turner at shortstop, the Phillies may not have kept the game close.

Turner’s Show Saves Rough Night for Offense

With his outstanding defense already giving him the spotlight, a 3-4 night at the plate gives Trea the nod tonight. His three hits bring his average back up to .300, which continues to lead the Phillies roster.

Not only did Turner’s defense save the game, but his offense saved the Phillies as well, as Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto, Bohm, Nick Castellanos, and Harrison Bader all went hitless tonight against Braves pitching, who racked up 15 strikeouts against the Phillies’ offense.

Turner’s success tonight climaxed in the bottom of the 10th inning, where a bases-loaded situation led to two runs batted in for Turner after a two-out, bases-loaded base hit the other way won the Phillies the game.

Noteworthy Start for Sanchez

Atlanta scoring one run through nine innings is also due to another quality start for Cristopher Sanchez, who went under 100 pitches in seven innings. Sanchez gave up only one run while striking out eight and, once again, walking no batters, a common theme for the Phillies’ pitching, as the staff walked no one through 10 innings.

With Zack Wheeler going down, game one of the 2025 Postseason will most likely be in the hands of Sanchez, who has been phenomenal all year. Sanchez, who sits at a solid 2.66 ERA, worked together with the defense and backed up a Phillies’ victory.

Banks and Duran Keep it Tied

With Tanner Banks going out on the mound in the eighth to keep the game tied, he did exactly that, as he continues to show excellence for the Phillies. Banks threw 15 pitches and gave up one hit in his inning of work tonight. Time after time, Banks does his job perfectly, and he will be an important piece this postseason.

With the game still tied, Jhoan Duran went out for a second straight game, as he saved yesterday’s 2-1 victory. Duran’s two strikeouts and no hits showed he can go for as long as he wants. Duran threw 14 pitches and brought his earned run average back under 2.00 at 1.98.

Phillies Go for the Sweep

The Phillies try to completely wipe away the sweep by the Mets tomorrow night as Jesus Luzardo takes the mound in Sunday night baseball. The Phillies winning tomorrow would complete a four-game sweep over a division rival, which would bring the clubhouse’s momentum back to where it was after the series against Seattle, where the Phillies put on the biggest show of the year.

Luzardo and the Phillies take the field at 7:00 PM on ESPN for Sunday Night Baseball in the series finale against the Atlanta Braves.
