In game two of a three-game series, the Philadelphia Phillies were not able to carry a one-run lead coast to coast, as the Toronto Blue Jays stormed back for a walk-off victory in the bottom of the ninth.

Compared to last night’s game, the Blue Jays were able to suppress the Phillies’ hitters which holding off hits and slugging throughout the game. Besides a solo home run from Nick Castellanos to open the scoring, the Phillies seemed remiss at the plate, as they continued to look at strike three and waste valuable at-bats during crucial points of the game.

Abel Makes History

The Phillies, however, might not have gone to the bottom of the ninth with only one run if it weren’t for the consistency of rookie Mick Abel, who made his second career start after six scoreless innings against the Pirates on May 18th. Though on the Triple-A roster in between starts, this did not stop him from performing on the mound, as he has accomplished a very impressive feat that hasn’t been done in over a century.

After his second start tonight, Abel, in his first two starts, has had at least five or more innings with no walks and one run or less in each start. This had not been done in the last 125 years of Major League Baseball.

With a statistic of that caliber, he is bound to stay on this Phillies roster.

Jays Freeze the Top of the Lineup

Bryson Stott, Trea Turner, and Bryce Harper, who were so truculent at the plate last night, took a rather large step backward, as they went a combined 0-12 tonight. They lacked contact as much as they lacked power tonight.

Though this may not be the biggest concern for the ball club, it is definitely a huge factor towards the Phillies’ one-run scored total. It is a disappointment as Turner had two home runs, Harper had a home run in his return, and Stott brought in two runs with an RBI single last night.

With each of the three batters going 0-4 tonight, this will not help if the Phillies plan to turn the page in tomorrow’s series finale.

Realmuto Exits in the Ninth

The All-Star catcher in J.T. Realmuto, had an inopportune injury with a foul ball deflected right at his groin in the bottom of the ninth.

Though Realmuto has always been a resilient ballplayer, the fortuitous tip caused him to leave the game in place of backup catcher Rafael Marchan.

Though this injury did not cost the Phillies the game, it certainly hurt them at the wrong time. There is currently no update as of now.

Blue Jays Walk it Off

The game had remained tied at one run apiece for two innings before the ninth inning, where the Blue Jays would rally for the win.

With former Phillie Jeff Hoffman silencing the Phillies, it was time for the former Blue Jay Jordan Romano to face his former team in the bottom of the ninth.

Though getting the first out with ease, a stolen base by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. set up Alejandro Kirk for the seven-pitch walk-off single to prevent going to extras and, more importantly, tying this series at one game each. For Romano, he continues to be held in reprehensible by Phillies fans as his ERA is up to 7.54.

Jesus Luzardo looks to make a rebound in tomorrow’s series finale at 3:00 P.M. against Chris Bassitt, whom the Phillies have struggled against in history.
