Kyle Schwarber blasted his 300th career home run in a come-from-behind blowout win for the Phillies, and of course, he did it in Kyle Schwarber fashion.
He is just the 163rd player to do so in Major League Baseball history and is the 11th active player with 300 bombs. Quite an accomplishment.
Schwarber has been an incredible player to watch during his four seasons with the Phillies, yet he’s taken a huge step as a hitter this year, blasting 16 home runs in 40 games, which leads the league alongside Shohei Ohtani.
Almost half of his career home runs (147) have come in just over three years he’s donned the Phillies uniform. 153 of them came in seven other seasons with three different teams. However, those 154 aren’t as important to us. So let’s take a look at Schwarber’s biggest home runs in his Phillies career.
Honorable Mention: Schwarber’s leadoff bomb against Kodai Senga in the 2024 NLDS
No better way to start a game than with a home run, which Schwarber has done plenty of times. If this kicked off an unstoppable postseason run, it might’ve been higher on the list.
5. 488 off Yu Darvish
Schwarber absolutely clobbered a ball 488 feet to the second deck at Petco Park, the longest home run recorded there. All anyone could do was admire it, especially Bryce Harper, whose reaction went viral. Darvish hung a breaking ball over the heart of the plate, and as Joe Davis exclaimed, “Schwarber was ready.” With this home run, the Phils took a 1-0 lead in the NLCS that they would go on to win.
4. 2022 NLCS Game 3 Lead-Off
Just about two games after that 488-foot blast, Schwarber got to welcome Joe Musgrove to the feared Citizens Bank Park. Like he used to do often, Schwarber opened up the game with a 1-0 lead in the Phils’ half of the first. They had just dropped game two to the Padres in San Diego, but had the opportunity to host the next three at their home turf. Schwarber wasted no time setting the stage.
3. “An Ambush by Schwarber”
45,000 fans waving rally towels, screaming obscenities from the 400 level, and having to face Schwarber leading off cannot be fun for an opposing pitcher. For Zac Gallen, it certainly wasn’t. It probably wasn’t Gallen’s best idea to try and get ahead in the count with an inside fastball, but he went for it anyway. Schwarber made him pay. Not only was it a home run to lead off the game, but the entire championship series. If it weren’t for those last few games, this would have been a defining moment in that playoff run.
2. No more No Hitter
As if anyone wanted to experience the agony of a no-hitter against your own ball club, Schwarber was the least of them. After a miserable game three and an early deficit in game four, Schwarber had had enough. He turned on a second pitch fastball from Justin Verlander and gave the city its hope back.
1. The Last Hope
Down to their final life in the 2022 World Series, the Phillies were in a pitcher’s duel and needed a spark of offense. Who better than Schwarber to provide that spark? He had been the guy for timely home runs all postseason long — even if that was all he produced. They were all clutch, but none of them more important than giving your team a lead in the back half of a do-or-die game.
These home runs are Schwarber’s finest work that happened in some of his biggest moments in the Phillies uniform. Although the series didn’t always go the Phillies’ way, these home runs were special. They were all a part of Schwarber’s greatest individual accomplishment yet: The 300 Club.
