The Eagles went into the 5th round with a lot of draft capital to work with. They originally had 4 picks, 3 of them in between 161-168. They would go on to trade out of 165, but selected Smael Mondon Jr out of Georgia with the 161st pick and Drew Kendall with the 168th pick.
Mondon joins the ever-growing list of Georgia Bulldogs to be drafted by the Eagles.
He makes his living in coverage as one of the better man-coverage linebackers that the class had to offer. He’s praised for his smarts on the defensive side of the ball and his ability to read the QB’s eyes and jump routes.
It’s the 2nd linebacker the Eagles have selected in this draft after picking Jihaad Campbell 31st overall.
Then, 7 picks later, the Eagles snagged one of the more underrated players in the draft in Drew Kendall, the center from Boston College.
Kendall’s biggest strength is his run-blocking skills. As a captain at Boston College, he was the keystone behind the team’s entire inside rushing attack.
Another interesting note is that Kendall scored a 9.09/10 in Raw Athletic Score (RAS). He’ll be paired with the best offensive line coach in the NFL in Jeff Stoutland, and is somebody who could definitely make an impact with a year or two of development.
He most likely won’t see the field much, if at all, in his rookie season unless he is able to win the RG battle, but that, for the time, appears to be between Tyler Steen and Kenyon Green.
