Things are going from bad to worse for the Phillies right now.
Cristopher Sanchez left Tuesday night’s game against the Mets at Citi Field with “left forearm soreness” after just two innings. He will be evaluated “later,” per the Phillies.
Sanchez did not have it all night. His command was non-existent, and his velocity was down. In his two innings, he allowed four hits and two earned runs, walked two, and struck out two on 58 pitches. His fastball reached 96 mph four times, but his sinker was down from a season average of 95.9 mph to 94.7.
This comes just one start after he notched his career-high 12 strikeouts against the Giants, most of which with his changeup.
The Phillies had won 11 consecutive games when Sanchez started coming into Tuesday, including the postseason. He has a 3.42 ERA through five starts in 2025.
When you hear about a forearm injury with a pitcher, your mind immediately goes to the absolute worst possibility. Hopefully, this injury did not reach Sanchez’s shoulder.
Ranger Suarez did start Tuesday night at Triple-A Lehigh Valley and threw five scoreless frames, throwing 59 pitches. He was expected to make a fourth rehab start on Sunday, but could be called back up to the Majors depending on Sanchez’s status. Ideally, the Phillies want to get Suarez through six innings/85 pitches before returning to Philadelphia.
We will have more updates on Sanchez postgame at phillysportsreports.com.
