Flyers Fall 5-2 to Senators, Lose 5th Game In A Row

The Flyers lost to the Ottawa Senators and have now lost their first 5 games of their 7 game homestand. They move 27-31-8 overall.
The Sens have now won back-to-back games after beating the Red Wings 2-1 yesterday. They are leaning towards a playoff position even if there is some hockey left to the season.
The Senators weren’t as tired as we might think after traveling yesterday. They scored early. Brady Tkachuk, assisted by ex-Flyer Claude Giroux and Tim Stützle, made it 1-0. A perfect pass from Giroux to Tkachuk, who put it top shelf — I believe Fedetov touched it with his upper body, but it wasn’t enough. Also, Travis Sanheim wasn’t able to prevent it, and Ivan Fedotov couldn’t get in position in time.
The period ended 1-0. There wasn’t much happening during the first 20 minutes of play. Only 11 total shots on goal with 6 for the Senators. The second period was the complete opposite: 4 goals were scored. Jamie Drysdale scored the first goal of the game for the Flyers and his second goal in two games to make it 1-1. Travis Konecny and Olle Lycksell got the assist. After receiving a pass from TK, Drysdale made his way too close to the net and decided to shoot from the backhand. The puck went between the pad and glove of Anton Forsberg.
A few minutes after the goal from Drysdale, Tyler Kleven scored from distance, on the blue line, to make it 2-1 Ottawa. Its surely a goal that Fedotov would like to have back. Yes, there was a screen in front of him but with his height, he should fight through it and make a save. The goal was assisted by David Perron and Drake Batherson.
The fourth line for the Flyers would then tie it again. After generating chances and settling in the offensive zone, Rodrigo Abols scored his second NHL goal assisted by Cameron York and Jacob Pelletier. A perfect pass behind the net from York to Abols and it’s a 2-2 game. However, the Senators took their lead back with 4:59 left in the second period. A bad goal between the legs allowed by Fedotov. The goal was scored by Michael Amadio assisted by Adam Gaudette and Jake Sanderson.
The action was packed during this second period: 16-11 the shots on goal in favor of Ottawa. The period would be very similar to the first period, with only 8 shots on goal in total and 2 of them to Ottawa. Even if the Sens were generating much during this period, they scored on both of their shots. Dylan Cozens scored on a huge mistake from the Flyers. Nick Seeler tried to pass the puck to Ryan Poehling but he wasn’t able to settle it, Cozens capitalized on the turnover from the Flyers and beat Fedotov top shelf. The last Senators goal was an empty netter from Shane Pinto assisted by Amadio and Sanderson.
The Flyers have 16 games left in the season and they are now close to being mathematically eliminated from the playoff contention. They have two more games this week, Thursday against Tampa and Saturday against Carolina.
