The Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl. Let that sink in, the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl! Even though it happened two days ago it still doesn’t feel real. As I start to reflect on this game and this team, it’s impossible to not think about the Super Bowl 59 MVP Jalen Hurts.

Jalen Hurts has been a hot-button topic since he was drafted by the Eagles in 2020. Drafted to be a backup, Hurts was viewed as a waste of an asset by many because the Eagles already had their franchise quarterback. Wentz was coming off a playoff birth and many fans wanted the Eagles to draft offensive talent. Instead, in the second round they went with the quarterback out of Oklahoma, in a move that shocked the nation. Who could have guessed that quarterback out of Oklahoma would become the best draft pick in the history of the franchise?

During that 2020 season, Hurts took over for Wentz as the starter and has remained the starter ever since. In his 5 NFL seasons, Jalen Hurts is 55-30-1 with a 6-3 playoff record. In his first 5 years he has been to the playoffs 4 times, the Super Bowl two times, and now is a Super Bowl champion. Hurts became the first quarterback in Eagles history to make it to multiple Super Bowls, and of course is the second quarterback to bring the Lombardi Trophy home. While players like Donovan McNabb and Randall Cunningham were great, Hurts is doing things they were never able to do.

Throughout his 5 years as a starter, Hurts has been under a lot of scrutiny. After his first year as a starter, even the Eagles were looking for another quarterback. Hurts responded by taking the team to the Super Bowl the very next season, but ultimately falling short. Then while having a good start to the 2023 season he and the team ended up collapsing leading again to many questions about him. Even during this season, there were many questions about Hurts. There was no doubt that the passing game struggled at times, and it led to many people both locally and nationally to question if he can be the guy to lead them to the promised land. Well, in the two biggest games he played his best. He was fantastic in the NFC Championship game and was again fantastic in the Super Bowl. The questions about Jalen Hurts have been answered, and at just age 26, he is the best quarterback in franchise history.
