Flyers send Joel Farabee, Morgan Frost to Calgary for 2 wingers, 2 picks

Towards the end of the Flyers’ 3-0 loss to the Islanders on Thursday night, it became apparent to guys that they would be dawning the orange and black for the final time.
The Flyers are trading Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost to the Flame in exchange for Jakob Pelletier, Andrei Kuzmenko, a 2025 second-round pick, and a 2028 seventh-round pick, according to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.
The Flyers now have 13 total picks in the 2025 draft, including four second-round picks.
The official trade is yet to be announced, as Calgary just wrapped up their game against the Ducks, winning it 4-1 UPDATE: The trade is official.
The Flames were in search of some help at the centerman position, and they are getting that with Frost, who had primarily been the Flyers’ top center this season.
The 25-year-old has 11 goals and 14 assists for 25 points this season and will become a restricted free agent after this season.
In 2022-23, Frost set a career-high of 61 points. However, he has not reached that mark since, and his average ice time has dropped each season. Frost’s role with the Flyers beyond this season was up in the air and had his name swirling in trade rumors.
Meanwhile, Farabee is a bit of a shocker. The 24-year-old, who will turn 25 on February 25, has scored eight goals and recorded 11 assists, totaling 19 points, in 49 games. He is coming off his best season in 2023-24, where he scored 22 goals and had 28 assists for 50 points.
Farabee still has three years remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $5 million.
Farabee seemed like a guy the Flyers would have liked to keep around for the future. He has been a Flyer for all six years of his career, but never really took that next step. Now, he heads to Calgary.
The first name the Flyers reportedly received in this deal was Kuzmenko. The 28-year-old Russian winger has four goals and 11 assists for 15 points in 37 games played this season. He will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason and has a $5.5 million cap hit this season.
Kuzmenko recorded 71 points in his rookie season, 2022-23, with Vancouver and 46 points last season with the Canucks and the Flames. Kuzmenko, however, has fallen off a bit in 2024-25 compared to prior years.
Kuzmenko was a former teammate of Matvei Michkov‘s in the KHL with SKA St. Petersburg. Michkov will now have a familar forward to skate alongside.
As for the 23-year-old winger Pelletier, he has four goals and seven assists for 11 points in 23 regular-season games this year. The 2019 first-rounder has eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points in 60 career games.
Pelletier will have an $800,000 cap-hit and is under control until 2028.
