SUPER BOWL BOUND! Eagles Dominate Commanders 55-23 To Win NFC Championship, Advance To Super Bowl LIX

The Philadelphia Eagles are going to the Super Bowl. The Eagles have punched their ticket to the big game for the second time in three years, defeating the Washington Commanders 55-23 in the NFC Championship. It will be the 5th appearance all-time for the Eagles in the Super Bowl.

It was an incredible showing from the entire team in the win, especially from Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, and the rest of the offense. Hurts combined for four total touchdowns, three rushing, one passing, and 246 passing yards. For Barkley, he continued his incredible year and postseason run rushing for 118 yards and three touchdowns. A.J. Brown was alive as well grabbing six balls for 96 yards and one touchdown.

The Eagles also forced three fumbles, one coming on a kick return, and sacked Jayden Daniels twice in the victory. However, Daniels was impressive in the loss throwing for 255 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 48 yards and running in a touchdown as well.

The Commanders received the ball to kick off the game and went on an 18-play drive to open up the game. Jayden Daniels dinked and dunked passes down the field, going for it on fourth down twice and converting both but when a third fourth down came up, Dan Quinn sent out Zane Gonzalez for a 34-yard field goal to make it 3-0 Washington.

That lead didn’t last long as Saquon Barkley broke one on the first offensive play for a 60-yard rushing touchdown.

On the next Commanders’ possession, the Eagles picked up an early turnover as Zack Baun forced Dyami Brown to fumble. With the ball back in Jalen Hurts’ hands, the offense went quickly down the field thanks to three big catches from DeVonta Smith, A.J. Brown, and Dallas Goedert to set up Barkley for his second touchdown of the game.

Down 14-3, the Commanders got another long drive going that ended in three points. Dyami Brown picked up a big 24-yard catch to get Washington into field goal range, but three straight plays of zero yards forced a 46-yard field goal to make it an eight-point game.

The Eagles then went on a long drive of their own thanks to small runs from Kenneth Gainwell but stalled out after Hurts took a sack on third down to push the Eagles back to the 36-yard line. Jake Elliott trotted out for a 54-yard field goal but it hooked left. With the ball back in Daniels’ hands, he hit a few short passes to get over midfield, and then found Terry McLaurin over the middle for a 36-yard touchdown, after a failed two-point conversion, making it 14-12 Eagles.

Up by two with just over seven minutes to go until the half, the Eagles began putting together another big drive. After passing midfield, 4th and 5 came up and with the Commanders bringing a huge blitz, Hurts tossed one up for A.J. Brown he hauled it in for 31 yards and a first down. After a false start pushed the Eagles back, third down came up and a pass interference penalty was called in the endzone from Marshon Lattimore putting the ball at the one. Hurts then tush pushed his way into the endzone for a touchdown, but a failed two-point rush made it 20-12.

On the following kickoff, the Eagles forced a fumble, getting the ball back inside the thirty. After a few small yardage gains, Hurts found Brown for a four-yard touchdown to make it 27-12 Eagles. With 39 seconds left, Daniels led a quick drive down into field goal range, setting up Gonzalez for a 42-yard field goal to make it 27-15 at the half.

Out of the half, both teams punted on their first possession. On the Eagles’ second offensive drive, Hurts found Goedert twice for two big gains to get them down inside the 10-yard line. Hurts then used his legs to find the endzone for another rushing touchdown. However, the Commanders answered back right, with Daniels hitting his tight end for a couple of big gains, and Daniels rushed it from 10 yards out for a touchdown.

The Eagles then got the ball back but were forced to punt it away after a few negative plays giving the ball back to the Commanders down 11. With Daniels and company driving, Oren Burks punched out the ball from Austin Ekeler to get the Eagles the ball back.

After a big pass to Brown and a big run from Barkley, the Eagles were set up at the one-yard line. The Commanders tried to get the Eagles to jump by jumping over the pile on the tush push but were unsuccessful on all of them. After the refs threatened to award the Eagles a touchdown for obsessive penalties from Washington, Hurts finally was pushed in for his third rushing touchdown of the game.

Down 18, Washington needed points and fast. Daniels found a few revivers to move the ball to about midfield but eventually stalled out. The drive was officially finished after Nolan Smith sacked Daniels on fourth down to get the Eagles the ball back. The Eagles then began running the clock out with short passes and run play, until they got down to the four-yard line where Brkley found the endzone for a third time.

With the game nearly over, Daniels went back out to try and mount a comeback. After picking up a few first downs thanks to Ertz, Daniels threw one towards the endzone for McLaurin but was picked off by Quinyon Mitchell to essentially end the game. Will Shipley then stepped in for Barkley and nearly broke a run for 57 yards but was tackled at the seven. Two plays later, Shipley found the endzone for the Eagles’ seventh rushing touchdown of the game, tying the record for the most in a playoff game all-time. The Commanders then brought their backups in and ticked away the final seconds, with the Eagles defeating the Commanders 55-23.
