Saquon Barkley, Zack Baun named first team All-Pro, four others make second team

In just their first years as Eagles, running back Saquon Barkley and linebacker Zack Baun were named to the Associated Press first-team All-Pro Friday.

This was Barkley’s first All-Pro selection, as he finished with 2,005 yards, eighth most in NFL history. He was just 101 yards short of Eric Dickerson‘s long-lasting single-season rushing record.

This was Baun’s first season as an off-ball linebacker and a full-time starter. And out of nowhere, Baun became the best at the position in the league, leading the Eagles to the No. 1 ranked defense in the NFL. He finished with 3.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, five quarterback hits, five forced fumbles, four pass deflections, and 151 tackles.

Four Eagles were named to the second team: left tackle Jordan Mailata, right tackle Lane Johnson, wide receiver A.J. Brown, and defensive tackle Jalen Carter.

This is Mailata’s first appearance on any All-Pro squad. Johnson was a first-team all-pro in 2017 and 2022 and a second-teamer in 2021 and 2023. I am beyond shocked that this is the only representation of the Eagles’ offensive line, who paved the lane for Barkley’s record year. Both representatives were on the second team. Poor.

Brown made the second team even after missing three games early this season with a hamstring injury. He caught 67 passes for 1,079 yards and seven touchdowns. In all three seasons with the Eagles, Brown has made an All-Pro team.

In his first year as a starter, replacing Fletcher Cox, Carter had 4.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 16 quarterback hits, and six pass deflections, earning his first All-Pro selection.
