Phillies avoid arbitration with Jesús Luzardo prior to deadline, no agreements made with five players

With the arbitration deadline hitting at 1:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, the Phillies avoided arbitration with Jesús Luzardo, signing a one-year contract worth $6.225 million, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Luzardo was acquired from the Marlins just before Christmas for the Phillies’ fourth-ranked prospect Starlyn Caba and Emaarion Boyd.
The 27-year-old Luzardo will receive a $725,000 raise in his first year with the Phillies.
Luzardo posted a 5.00 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in just 66.2 innings before season-ending surgery in June. He recently told reporters that he is fully recovered from his injury and is ready to bounce back in 2025 to his 3.48 ERA he recorded from 2022-23.
The Phillies avoided arbitration with two others earlier this offseason, signing right-handed reliever Jose Ruiz to a one-year, $1.22M deal and Garrett Stubbs for $925,000.
The Phillies’ remaining unresolved arbitration cases for 2025 are Ranger Suárez, Alec Bohm, Edmundo Sosa, Brandon Marsh, and Bryson Stott. Without an agreement prior to the deadline, the Phillies will exchange salary figures with each of them and separate hearings would be scheduled for mid-February.
If no one-year or multi-year settlement can be reached by the hearing date, the case is brought to a panel of arbitrators, who will select either the salary figure of either the player or the club as the player’s salary for the upcoming season.
