Jalen Hurts ruled out Sunday vs. Cowboys, Kenny Pickett to start
Kiel Leggere / Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles will be without their starting quarterback for the first time in two seasons on Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field.
Jalen Hurts, who missed all of practice this week with a concussion he suffered against the Commanders, has officially been ruled out for the Cowboys game on Sunday.
Hurts got hit in the head at the end of his 13-yard run in the first quarter last week by Frankie Luvu. Hurts tried to stay on the field, giving the Eagles medical staff a thumbs up, but eventually ran to the sideline and did not return.
Hurts is still in concussion protocol. Prior to exiting, he was 1-for-4 for 11 yards and 41 yards on the ground on three rushes.
Kenny Pickett came in for Hurts. He completed 14-of-23 passes for 143 yards, including a touchdown and an interception in the Eagles’ 36-33 loss.
This time, Pickett will have a game plan tailored more to his game and had first-team reps all week in practice with the first-team offense. Pickett was good enough for the Eagles to win last week. Kellen Moore and Nick Sirianni’s game plan will be vital on Sunday.
And Pickett, Ocean Township, New Jersey native, grew up an Eagles fan hating Dallas. How perfect would it be if he were to shut down the Cowboys in South Philadelphia to clinch the division?
Pickett is not 100% healthy, though. He suffered a rib injury last week and was listed as limited in practice to start the week. He said he will wear some extra padding in his flak jacket this weekend.
Pickett was limited in practice on Friday.
This will be Pickett’s first start in over a year. He started 24 games for the Steelers before being benched late in 2023. The Eagles’ backup quarterbacks will be Tanner McKee and Ian Book.
Here is the full Eagles injury report from Friday’s practice:
Out: QB Jalen Hurts (concussion), RB Will Shipley (concussion), WR Britain Covey (neck)
Doubtful: LB Nakobe Dean (abdomen)
Questionable: DE Bryce Huff (wrist)
