In their final home until January 7, the Flyers beat the Blue Jackets 5-4 in overtime with a huge third period in terms of action.

Let’s recap the game.

First Period

In the first period, nothing much will happen. The Flyers and the Blue Jackets had a couple of chances but an even period.

Although, the Jackets did head to the second period leading by a goal. Mathieu Olivier scored with the assists from Kent Johnson off of a huge turnover by Jamie Drysdale in his zone with 4:13 left in the period.

Second Period

In terms of chances, it was the same scenario as the first: an even period but a mistake by the Flyers gave a 2-0 advantage to the Jackets.

Samuel Ersson misplayed the puck behind his net and gave the puck away. This time, it was Mikael Pyyhtia
hitting the back of the net with the assist from Sean Kuraly.

In the last few seconds of the period, the Flyers had a huge scoring chance. Travis Konecny and Scott Laughton were on a two-on-one, but Laughton could not finish off a great pass from Konecny and a good save from Elvis Merzļikins.

Third Period

The third period was packed with action. The Flyers, the best comeback team in the third period in the NHL, scored 2 goals in less than 3 minutes to tie the game at 2.

Morgan Frost, from Owen Tippett and Konecny, got the Flyers on the board with an incredible wrap-around pass from Tippett, who set up Frost with a tap-in. The tying goal came from Noah Cates, his third goal in his last two games, with assists from Tyson Foerster and Cam York.

Less than 2 minutes after the Flyers’ goal, Kirill Marchenko scored with the assist from Dmitri Voronkov and Ivan Provorov. A puck that the Flyers couldn’t clear led to a “kinda” turnover, and then the goal.

The Flyers then tied the game back up at four. Foerster, assisted by Tippett and Konecny, with Ersson pulled, scored the much important goal from Philly. The Jackets gave time and space to TK, who made sure the puck got Tippett by Foerster.

Overtime

In overtime, Tippett, who had already 3 assists, scored the game-winning goal. OT in OT! The winner was assisted by Cates who passed on the 2-on-1 to spring Tippett on a small breakaway.

The Flyers won the game 5-4 and ended their 3-game losing streak. They will head to Pittsburgh on Monday for the final game before the break.
